5.0 out of 5 stars An incredible compilation
I had worked in the music store before, and Jim Brickman was one of those artists where you wondered about - like "Is he that popular? What's his music like?" So on a whim I bought The Gift" because I have heard that Collin Raye song and thought it was great! So I had a chance to get Valentine compilation, and this "Greatest Hits So Far" type...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not quite there
I was excited to get this CD. I'd listened to The Gift and thought his music was very relaxing. The first sign that this CD wasn't going to be as good as the others was the disclaimer on the back that stated that this "collection" was "specially created by Jim and features all new versions of classics." If I had read this I would have known to stay away...

I had worked in the music store before, and Jim Brickman was one of those artists where you wondered about - like "Is he that popular? What's his music like?" So on a whim I bought The Gift" because I have heard that Collin Raye song and thought it was great! So I had a chance to get Valentine compilation, and this "Greatest Hits So Far" type CD compilation from him was absolutely awesome! It has the songs which he is known for (his songs have become a staple for adult-contemporary radio stations) like Valentine, The Gift, Love of My Life, etc. My wife and I enjoyed his music so much we're in the process of picking up his other works just because it's wonderful to listen to, or provide background sound while I work. Just a great, romantic CD...

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful cd - well worth the money, July 31, 2002
By A Customer

I didn't know anything about Jim Brickman when I bought this CD but I think it is great. I bought it because I am looking for a wedding song. If this had been the first CD I bought, it would have saved me a lot of money. Now, if I could just get my fiance to agree to the song(s) I have chosen, everything would be great.

Messages like this can be translated to mean the following: "This CD has limited new material and it was put together by recyling past-not-quite-hits so that the artist can meet his contract requirement of at least one CD per year."

Perhaps the true, die-hard, Brickman fan would appreciate this half-hearted effort, but b/c the songs weren't very good to begin with, new versions of them don't make them any better. I wouldn't recommend this to a new fan. Start with the Gift and stay away from the "collections."

3.0 out of 5 stars Brickman's Latest A Letdown, April 8, 2008
By

This review is from: Valentine (Audio CD)
Jim Brickman's latest CD, Valentine, is a letdown as well as a departure from his past efforts. His choice of vocalists ruins and roughens the treatment of his beautiful songs. I would have preferred him singing the songs himself than the harsh vocalists he uses on this CD. The title track "Valentine" is so harch in this iteration. If one bought the sweet and nearly etheral sounding past CDs that were so romantic, this one is harsh....don't want to play most of the selections compared to playing his past releases over and over again!

3.0 out of 5 stars Same ole, March 8, 2008
This review is from: Valentine (Audio CD)
Other than a couple of new songs, basically a re-hash of old songs, some performed by new vocalists and not done as well.

I bought this album several days ago, and this is my first Jim Brickman album! Before I listened to it, I couldn't imagine how wonderful it was! When I listened to it, I found that it's wonderful! I can't use some words else but only "wonderful" to describe this album! My favourite songs in this album were "The Gift" "Valentine" and "Simple Things"! And I think Martina McBride was a good singer too! "Through Your Eyes", which was in "Bambi-2" Soundtrack, was the first Martina McBride's song I've heard, and I found she's quite good!
Mmm, I think I will collect all Jim Brickman's albums from now on!

4.0 out of 5 stars Jim's Re-Issued 'Valentine' CD ..., April 26, 2009
This review is from: Valentine (Audio CD)
This is an almost entirely different release than his original 'Valentine' CD (also with a different cover: issued with him standing against a completely red background). Although many of the songs have been included in other collections up through this point, there are a few first-timers. One is the non-vocal version of the title track: Valentine. An overall very enjoyable disc.

Jim Brickman just never gets old (literally and figuratively)! I have many CD's of his already, and I will probably buy any CD he ever puts out for the rest of my life. Whether I'm busy and stressed out at work, or taking a long drive, he's where I go to in my "music library".

Jim Brickman never sounded better. His old songs are reworked, and his new ones are excellent... I always enjoy and relax to the sounds and songs he produces. I am a big fan, and anyone else who njoys his music will not be disappointment by this addition to his body of work !
