The this-week obituaries for esteemed artist Helen Frankenthaler speak, of course, of her large works, her big ideas, her long associations in and outside the fine arts world with anybody who was anybody - and she certainly was somebody. In contrast to all these trappings of a big world, and a long life in it, came this enchanting, small volume, which I purchased several years ago for my Mr. Wonderful, who loved it. He was a lawyer, student of fine arts, appraiser; he represented artists, galleries, and art organizations. He is now cherished in memory. The book is subtle, very attractive, intimate, full of affection - all nestled in a scarlet slipcase. I suggest it to purchasers looking for something exquisite and lasting for Valentine's day. It outstrips (as the title says) confections and flora.
