Biography

From their earliest steps, Roxy left a massive footprint on British popular culture. They were formed in 1971 by Ferry, Mackay and Brian Eno, the axis completed with Manzanera's official arrival early next year, by which time the music press was buzzing. Their self-titled debut album in the summer of '72 - declared by many then and ever since as the best first album ever - cleared the path for a… Read more in Amazon's Roxy Music Store

5.0 out of 5 stars For your pleasure, November 22, 2000

The first half of the 2 CD's that are taken from the German TV show "Musikladen" (the 2nd. is "Vintage"). The recordings were taken in the years 1972-74 and when you play it in your pc, you can see the young Ferry, Thompson, Manzanera, Mckay and Jobson on stage in video, and one of the few chances to watch Eno's unique performance on stage. And that is lovely. Lets see the songs: There are enough live versions of "In every dream home a heartache", "Do the Strand" and "Re make/Re model" in the market so they did'nt impressed me much. On the other hand, "Street life", "Virginia Plain" that are for the first time on legal live CD (I think that these are 2 of the 3 best songs of the early band. Listen to Jobson's great violin solo on "Street life"), and "All i want is you", that is not as good, but again - first time on legal CD - make this CD a must for the fans of the early Roxy Music. The booklet, is nice, but too much blah...blah... blah in my opinion. I missed explanations about the show, the recordings etc. The sound is not as bad as some might think. I guess that it's mono (but not sure), but much better than most of the bootlegs of the early band. So the bottom line: You say like the early Roxy Music? Don't believe it if you still don't have "Valentine" and "Vintage".

THE ONLY REASON TO BUY IS TO SEE WHAT ROXY MUSIC LOOKED LIKE DURING THE FIRST YEAR OF EXISTENCE.
OTHERWISE THE SOUND QUALITY, LENGTH OF THE CD AND THE PERFORMANCE DON'T REALLY JUSTIFY BUYING THIS.

This is one of two CD's released from German TV shows of Roxy Music playing live in a bar in 1972 and 1974. This is the better CD which is mostly from 1972. The other CD, Vintage is from 1974.

Both of these CD's have been reissued as a double CD called Reflections.

This CD consists of 6 songs. The songs are in CD audio you can play on any CD player. The songs are repeated in Quicktime Video you can play on your computer.

The sound quality is bad. The video is OK when watched on a small window on your computer. On the plus side, the editing is very good, unlike most DVD videos you get today.

What makes this interesting is seeing the group in the early days when Brian Eno was in the group. He is dressed in featheres and the rest of the group has a little of the glam rock posturing.
