Book Description

Who would have thought that a night of babysitting could change her life forever?

Since his little sister bit her in November, Matt Johnson has kept her alive. Only Natalie could have a hot guy climb through her bedroom window every night and have it mean absolutely nothing romantic. Natalie works hard to hide her crush on Matt because the last thing this newly-turned vampire needs to deal with is a broken heart. Her insecurities about Matt come to a head when the mothers insist on them going to the Valentine's dance together. Will this Valentine's Day suck worse than all her previous Valentine's days?

Excerpt

“Thanks,” I told him. “You’re getting good at solving my problems.”

“That’s me,” he said, lifting the bottle to refill our glasses. “Synthetic blood deliveryman, fashion consultant, parental advice provider…”

“Good friend,” I said. I wanted more, but I couldn’t exactly say, “Slurpalicious hottie." I mean, I didn’t have the guts.

5.0 out of 5 stars An original and fun YA vampire story January 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Juli Alexander is quickly becoming one of my favorite YA authors. I thoroughly enjoyed her novel STIRRING UP TROUBLE, and this holiday-themed novella is just as original and fun to read. The reader immediately sympathizes with Natalie, who was turned by a nine-year-old while babysitting and must hide her vampire status from her family. Now Natalie must depend on the nine-year-old's older bother Matt to keep her alive. Her problems are compounded by the fact that she has a major crush on Matt and feels she must hide her feelings from him. With Valentine's Day approaching, she worries that the holiday is going to be worse than ever. I highly recommend this novella.

5.0 out of 5 stars Juli Alexander is a natural story-teller! January 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Valentine's Day Sucks proves that even the worst day possible can turn out awesome. I'm far from being a YA, but loving vampire stories drew me to this one and I'm glad I tried it. From the first page I was drawn in unable to stop turning the page until I sadly came to the end. Matt and Natalie are enjoyable characters and you eagerly hope they find happiness in this unconventional situation they find themselves in. I look forward to reading more from Ms. Alexander.

This novella is an outstanding addition to the young adult genre of vampire books. Intrigue as well as romance make this a definite page turner through the last page. I look forward to reading many more books from this delightful new writer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Young Adult Vampire Book March 6, 2012
By "Tammy"
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I don't normally like short stories, but I thought I would give this a shot. I love anything young adult or paranormal. This was both. It had a nice story which I really enjoyed. I was disappointed that it had to end. I would love to read a sequel. At the end, I read the sneak peek into Stirring Up Trouble. Now I can't wait to read that one also.

5.0 out of 5 stars Valentine's Day isn't for everybody February 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Matt has been taking care of Natalie ever since his 9 year old sister, Ashley, turned her into a vampire when Natalie was babysitting her. Matt gives Natalie synthetic blood to help her and is there for her when she needs him. Natalie's mom thinks she is doing drugs and can't do anything without getting in trouble. Just when she thinks it can't get worse, Matt's parents want to meet her. She has no idea what's in store for her.

She's growing fond of Matt and knows that he's only taking care of her because he feels bad about his sister turning her. That is the only reason isn't it?

I love holiday related books, young adult books, and vampires. This book is the perfect combination of three. I thought Ashley would be a brat, but she wasn't, a little stubborn maybe but definitely not a brat. I felt bad that Natalie's mom thought she was up to no good.
I loved that Matt takes care of Natalie. He didn't have to. I hope Juli writes more books about vampires. I'll definitely read them. This is a quick read. My only complaint is I wish this was longer!

4.0 out of 5 stars sweet vampire story May 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I got this book for free and was happy I gave it a try. It is a short story, but with a nice plot and characters you might like. While there are some (in newer vampire-storys) often repeated elements like "destined love" the story itself is creative and sweet.
