"Valentines" is not the typical Valentine's Day sentimental poetry. The poems are 'homespun' and reflect the history of the prairie. Each poem is illustrated by line drawings of Robert Hanna. Mr. Kooser wrote and sent one poem each year on postcards to women friends for 21 years. This book is a compilation of them. Each poem touched me in a different way. Marvelous.

I have been reading Ted Kooser for years. Always his poetry. This is something new. Its autobiographical --- and, as ever with Ted, this little book is well worth the read.

I bought this book for my wife, for St. Valentine's day; after having heard an interview with the author on NPR. I also refer to it when I write her cards and letters. Great poetry regardless of the mood.

My husband & I used to know a wonderful couple, who over the years, the husband would send birthday cards to the wives of his friends, with a little verse and a balloon! I'll never forget his kindness & bringing a smile to the "birthday girl".

Little shots of verse, perfect for quick readings. This is a good one to take to the coffee shop to read in-between people watching.
