I do love to collect books about tableware, so this book was a little dissapointing. Not that the collection or the photography were dissapointing, but when I buy this type of book I also like to hear the stories of how the collection was formed, which pieces are loved, how or when they are used, the research. Instead I got a long introduction by Leon Talley, ex editor of Vogue about the ¨friends¨ that have dined with Mr. Valentino (shallow may I describe). Then a few recipes (some with complicated ingredients and all in metric measures), really don't do it for me. My conclusion is that the collection was made by a private buyer or curator and Mr. Valentino did not have any involvement in it's development except providing the funds. The ultimate sin was to mention that a Meissen black swan was part of the Collection (rarer than hen's teeth) and no photo was provided. So my final judgment, buy only for the eye candy and/or your an accomplished chef.

I really was excited about this book, but was a disappointed given the price. I am not sure if it is the printing or photographs themselves, but many of the images have a grainy quality. It may be low resolution photos or bad printing, or both... but not acceptable in a book this expensive. The headline font used throughout the book is also difficult to read. I did enjoy looking through the book and the images, I just think the book could have been produced better, or the price should be lowered.

I love interior design books and this one was at the top of my list for 2014. It's a huge book with it's own slipcase. But I was severely disappointed. First off, the contents.A long introduction by Talley that takes up 17 pages. Then recipes for each of the properties of Valentino on Gstaad, London, New York and his country estate Wideville in France. The pictures are beautiful but leaves more to be desired. The porcelains and silver would've been nicely presented more as in Alberto Pinto's Table Setting. I was expecting more...and sure Valentino has a great collection of fine silver and porcelain but perhaps a more exhaustive presentation would've done a better job. This book barely showed most of it. I was expecting table settings and amazing tablescapes. What I got was a ho-hum book with recipes from Valentinos chef. Next let me tell you about the quality of the book and printing. One word-cheap. For a book that retails for $150 and is sold here at amazon for $100, this is poorly made. It is printed in CHINA. The pictures are grainy. The paper is of poor quality. While reading I thought I spilled my wine as there was a small red blot on the book when I tried to wipe it off, it's a printers mistake! I do not expect to find this things on a book this expensive! Mr. Valentino should've made sure this book was exacting in quality as the rest of his clothes and his properties are. It's just such a bad reflection on him.

If you are looking for tabletop ideas this is not the book for you. A vanity publication, an ode to a life of luxury and excess, the tabletops shown in the book are not to be replicated by any but billionaires. The tables are loaded with antiques, and are not particularly creative, nor are they intended to inspire in my view. The recipes are more inspiring than the table decor in my view but this book is not marketed as a cookbook.

Thought it was going to be more about table decorations, than cooking recipes, so was a little bit disappointed .

Ahhh, Valentino Garavani...! He acts like an emperor and has managed to live like one too. An insight into the private life of the very talented couturier, the exquisite world he has create in his many houses, including a French castle. When admiring his stunning interiors, brimming with absolutely divine details, his works of art, his treasures, we should remember that not all wealthy people have good taste. Valentino is one of the few who knew how to combine both very elegantly. In this wonderful book, he also presents us with some of his favourite recipes. Merci! Recommended, of course.

Absolutely, positively one of the most BEAUTIFUL table books on the art of decorating your tables. Granated we do not have the mega-milllions Valentino does, but it is certainly a pleasure to see how the 1% + live. Impeccable taste as well as exquisite objects d'art for a multitude of settings. I cannot speak highly enough about this magnificent book
