Handy Weights,
By
This review is from: Valeo HW5 5-Pound Neoprene Hand Weights (Sports)
If you're looking for some lightweight, fixed dumbbells, these should work just fine. The neoprene handles make them comfortable to grip- as opposed to those that are bare metal (some of those metal ones with "hatch marks" on the grip are downright painful). Also, these dumbbells won't be falling apart anytime soon. The worst that will happen to them over the long run, is that the covering will start to wear down- however you'll still be able to use them for your exercises despite that. In other words, a pair of these are going to last you awhile. One tip though, when they do start to wear down, most of the time its on an edge. Therefore, always placing them on a soft a surface as possible will be easier on the neoprene and make the covering last longer. Metal dumbbell racks can take their toll that way.The only downside to buying dumbbells such as these is that the weight is set. In other words, for any given exercise, you'll only be able to get "5 pounds strong". For example, if you can lift a 5-pound dumbbell 10 times, and you continue to lift it 10 times, week after week, you'll never get any stronger. That's because the human body is efficient, and your muscles say, "If I can already lift 5-pounds, and that's all they ever want me to lift, then I don't have any reason to get bigger or stronger so I'm going to stay just the way I am." Therefore, if you can use a 5-pound dumbbell quite easily with your exercises, and you want to get stronger, you're going to have to add a pound or two. And then, you're going to have to go out and buy another dumbbell, say a 6 or 7 pound one, in order to progress and get stronger. And that was my point- fixed dumbbells are set, so a disadvantage is that if you want to continue to get stronger you'll have to go out and buy more dumbbells. Tip: if you think you're going to need more weight in the furture, look into buying a pair of ADJUSTABLE dumbbells instead. Just a thought. All-in-all a good product, and I highly recommend them if you're in the market for a pair of fixed dumbbells, especially good if you're doing rehab exercises, like for your rotator cuff. These weights have a nice feel to them (more comfortable than vinyl, for the same price), but like the above reviewer said, they only work if you use them. 5-lb weights are very suitable for beginners to purchase. It may be heavy at first, but as you get stronger, 3-lbs will get too light. 5-lbs will also get the toning done, without bulking you up.

One can immediately feel the difference in weight between the two barbells that I have received. Thus, I decided to weigh them and confirmed that one is 5.08 lbs and the other is 4.93 lbs. This somehow noticeable imprecision could become troublesome for some specific exercises that require balance and symmetry. However, I don't mind much since I assigned the heavier one to my left arm which has always been underdeveloped. Also, the barbells are not identical and have different bumps here and there.Overall the neoprene coating gives a nice gripping and the barbells are fit for my wife's morning warm-up exercise. If you are aware of these flaws and still think that they do not represent a problem, then the barbells are a good buy.

Everyone should have a pair of these in their fitness collection. While I know you can't get sculpted or buff with these, like you can something at the gym, they're awesome for various workouts where only light weight is needed. I take these out with me when I go for a power walk. I used them when I'm on the treadmill and pump my arms while walking. I use them when I am doing kickboxing or doing DVD workouts that work my upperbody. Also have a pair on my desk and do various exercises while talking on the phone at work.My arms are looking great because of these. 5 stars!!

They are the color shown. They weigh five pounds each. They are easy to grip and do not roll when set on the floor. I will buy other weights from this company if I need them.

I was looking for hand weights to use around the house for a variety of exercises. It was important to me that they were not too big as I have fairly small hands. These are perfect. I like the neoprene as it is really comfortable in my hand. I also think they are a great size overall - not too big.

What can I say...they're weights. They're blue. They weigh about 5 lbs each.Bought these to supplement physical therapy for rotator cuff tendonitis. Likes - comfortable grip, neoprene avoids having to pickup cold steel. Dislikes - price more expensive than they should have been (reason for 4 vs 5 stars) Other uses - great doorstop, paperweight, many more...
