1.0 out of 5 stars Not a proper weight belt
Basically the problem is this, if you don't know. The function of a weight belt is to give your abdominal muscles something to push against. The belt is tight and offers resistance so that the abs can push harder and therefore brace the torso/spine more effectively. That's what a belt is supposed to do.

Now, it makes no sense to have the belt be six inches tall...

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great belt, November 18, 2006

I use this belt for bodybuilding; specifically for squats and dead lifts. I purchased this belt originally because it had some padding on the inside and helped fill the small sway in the middle of my back. When cinched tightly this belt actually helps keep my spine in alignment and has drastically reduced the amount of pressure my lower back was enduring with other types of belts. My suggestion would be to loosen this belt when not lifting as it not made to be worn constantly.

I have used the velcro type of belts as well as the regular leather belts and neither of them offered the same type of protection I feel I receive from this one. I would highly recommend this belt for anyone doing serious lifting and has any sort of dip in their lower back.

I noticed that one of the reviews commented that the belt was made from plastic. This is not true, the belt is made of a very stiff leather and as it used will begin to fit to your particular shape...

I am a 36" waist, and the medium belt is snug at the last holes in the belt. If you have a 36" waist, you need a "large" belt.

The belt is tight and offers resistance so that the abs can push harder and therefore brace the torso/spine more effectively. That's what a belt is supposed to do.

Now, it makes no sense to have the belt be six inches tall in the back and 2 inches in the front. This is just poor design. A proper belt should be 4 inches the entire way around. Look into Inzer Belts, they are quality. Yes, you're going to pay more for a quality belt but any belt that is bigger in the back and small in the front is just improper design and won't function as well as one that is designed properly.

Save your money and put it towards a belt that is designed by people who actually understand the function of a belt.

This is a very well made, thick leather lifting belt. It provides a great amount of support for your core and lower back when worn while squatting and deadlifting. I used to look down on lifting belts as unnecessary crutches, but after tweaking my lower back a few months ago I've done a complete 180. I won't do any heavy weight now without the belt, it helps to keep your form perfect and allows you to get the most you can from your squats and deadlifts. This belt in particular is recommended because it is wide in the front as well as the back, providing maximal support. Don't bother with some cheapo velcro or nylon belt, get this or something similar. I expect to get many years use out of this belt, and my back is already thanking me for buying it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific belt--exactly what an experienced lifter needs, June 29, 2008

This belt is excellent. It's very well-made; the cowhide is thick, sturdy, but not too rigid. It offers excellent support for squats, deadlifts, bent-over rows--basically for any exercise where there's pressure on the lower back, I highly recommend this product. I was also able to purchase it here for over $10 less than at the sporting goods store. Valeo is one of the biggest names in weightlifting equipment and I would probably buy from them again.

5.0 out of 5 stars My dad loves it, December 15, 2011

My dad spends a lot of time lifting heavy items when he works and he has generally used back belts with velcro supports. He has grown to hate those because the velcro gives out after a short period of time and will slip loose, so I did some research and found this Valeo leather belt. After a month of wearing this while cutting wood, carrying tractor parts, lifting tires etc., he loves this belt and said it supports better than any other belt he has ever used.

The main function of the belt he liked most is the fact that it acts like a regular belt by using holes and loops to secure as tight as you need, so he is able to really snug it up tightly to his body and it won't slip loose. The quality/durability of the leather has held up nicely to nearly daily outdoor use. Also, the price is incredible: the velcro style belts cost roughly the same price as I paid for this high quality leather belt and from what I can tell this leather belt will last for years. He is roughly a 36"-38" waist and I bought the large size, which fits just fine.

This is a great buy, especially since it can be used for more than just working out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Belt, March 27, 2009

This belt is definitely of good quality, stitching looks sturdy and it offers good support. It is also a lot more comfortable than it looks. Haven't had any trouble with it yet confetti effect on my gym clothes aside (which is a minor issue). It seems to be a good buy
