3.0 out of 5 stars Good for the price
I'll agree with the other reviewers that this thing is sturdy. I weigh 220 and it holds me with ease. I'll also agree that the placing of the hand grips is bad. The bar extends in one direction, so you end up with a hand grip that is butted right up against the door frame. Yes, you can move the grips. But, 1.) it's a pain, and 2.) your grip will become uneven because...

But, 1.) it's a pain, and 2.) your grip will become uneven because the extension pole is smaller in diameter than the stationary pole.

But, for the $$$, it works fine for me. I am planning on putting up a more permanent pullup bar (joist mounted) in my basement, so I won't have to deal with the grip thing much longer.

FYI, You can move the hand grips to the position you want. Its not easy but it can be done. Its easier than my 3 sets of 10 pullups....

5.0 out of 5 stars good value, March 30, 2009

This bar provides a good value for anyone with a sturdy door frame in which to hang it. The complaints about the grips being difficult to move are unfounded unless you are interested in moving them around repeatedly for different exercises. As it is, they are just difficult enough to move to not slide around when you are gripping them but easy enough to move once or twice until you get them into a comfortable position. This model has an advantage over the popular total gym model in that it doesn't have to be positioned at the top of a door frame and can be fairly easily repositioned at hip or ankle height for different exercises.
This might not be true for people who need to screw it permanently into their doorway. I am about 160 lbs and did not need to do this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works great for me!, March 16, 2009

I received my order today and had it set up and tested in 15 minutes. (helps to have a screw gun). I weigh 205 and it has no problems supporting me.

I'm not sure what all the complaints about the grips are for. I was able to slide the grip over just fine by moving it back and forth. Didn't take more than a minute or so to get it where I needed it.

The only downside to this product for me...I realized how out of shape I really was when trying to do a few reps. :)

Got this for my son's doorway. Works fine, easy to install. We pushed the grips closer together for him without a problem. If you turn the rod every so often to maintain tension as tightly as possible the bar doesn't rotate while you're hanging.

2.0 out of 5 stars OK, But Bar Turns During Use, January 3, 2010

This bar would be great if not for one serious design issue: It turns when you're using it. It installs by screwing/unscrewing the outer and inner bar sections, with the idea being, I suppose, that once it's snugly in the door frame it won't turn any more. it will continue turning no matter what, and in fact if you keep unscrewing it (making the bar wider) the sides of the doorframe can be literally be pried apart! Even if the frame doesn't budge, the bar will still rotate because the round ends fit into round support caps, which allow the bar to turn freely with any amount of force. There's no way to lock the bar from turning, regardless of which way you hold it during exercise. It's always either tightening, loosening, or turning in place. Despite otherwise solid construction and comfortable grip, I can only give it 2 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Also works for metal frame doors, October 25, 2009

This review is from: Valeo Chin-Up Bar (Sports)
I purchased this bar to use as part of the P90X workout. I didn't realize that it was made to be screwed into a wood framed door. I live in an apartment complex with metal framed doors. However, because of the rubber ends on the bar I simply put up the bar without screwing in the supports to the door. I am 120lbs and it has held just fine thus far :) Additionally, the grips on the bar were too far apart and I was able to easily move one of the grips so that the distance between them was right for me. This is a great product at a great price!

My husband asked for a chin-up bar for Christmas so he was happy to get this. It has been great. He put it on the closet door and was exercising nightly for a while. He got results quickly. Even his family noticed a difference. It has been a quality product and takes up practicaly no space since it is above our heads and we can shut the door so we don't have to see it.
