I use a Troy Lite barbell, which is a smaller barbell system designed for women, and this works great with it! For several years, I'd just been using an extra handtowel around my barbell when doing squats, etc., and I just wish I had spent the money to get this years ago! It really makes a huge difference in your comfort level because of the nice gel padding inside it.

As another reviewer mentioned, you do just have to be sure that the velcro closure strip isn't on your back when you lift your barbell onto your back, or the pad will separate/come open while you're working out. However, it's very simple to just rotate it so that it's on the top as you place the barbell over your shoulders.

Highly recommended if you have the right size barbell!

I use a very standard size bar, and the pad isn't wide enough to wrap all the way around the bar and close. It ends up being okay because I just put the "open" part opposite my shoulders. It is padded enough to be comfortable- just wish it fit!!

I have been using the Atlas barbell pad and while it was good for a while it was ineffective after to much weight was put on. (about 100lbs or so) I bought this reading some of the reviews and believe me when I say this was WELL worth the money. This is made much better than the Atlas one. the foam material on the Valeo is much thicker and firmer. It fits on both olympic and standard bars. when its on the standard bar its a bit loose but once you start to lift it does not move like the Atlas did.

Very narrow opening, leaves a gap of 1-1/2 inches when used on a Smith machine's bar. Useless for any exercise that may cause it to roll. I'm sure the manufacturer saved a few pennies' worth of material, but it resulted in a useless product.

Product description on Amazon has this pad at 20 inches. True length is more like 16". So beware. Nevertheless it does the trick. You will instantly feel like you can push more weight and train harder with this aid.

This baby fits over the olympic bars at my gymnasium perfectly. I haven't a bad thing to say about her.

I, too, have been doing squats - the BEST overall body exercise with weights. Squats work just about every muscle from your shoulders on down. First of all, let me make a suggestion for some of you: if the bar is hurting your neck when squatting you have the bar sitting TOO HIGH. Check out stronglifts.com under SQUATS for detailed instructions. The bar should be farther down on your trapezius muscles, just above the shoulder blades. When I squat the bar doesn't even touch my neck. This pad DOES fit around my olympic-sized bar. It feels better then the towel I had been using, has just the right amount of padding, and does the job for $12. (I found mine at the local sporting goods shop for the same price.) Why spend $40 for a Manta Ray or something like that when this works just as well?

I'm writing this review because there wasn't a lot of reviews out there that answered my question. "Does this also fit on a curling bar?", and to simply put it yes. I only ask this because a curling bar is the only thing I have on hand at the moment and it makes my "good morning" work out so much less painful. Feels good.

I recently bought an olympic weight bench that had a squat rack. Everytime I tried to do squats, the bar would hurt my extremely bony should blades. I wanted to get the most out of my new equipment, so I was told to buy a squat pad.

I did a lot of searching, and saw pads from $5 to $40. I decided that I didn't need anything extravagant so I decided to get this one.

The pad is excellent quality. I immediately was able to do squats as the pad sat comfortably on my shoulder blades. The velcro stays on very well and has shown no signs of wear.

For me, this is a great product that has greatly increased my ability to work out without breaking the bank. As many know, strength training can get rather pricey once you start looking at different methods of working out.
5 stars for quality and price.
