The music of a dream ... or nightmare ... or fairy tale,

This review is from: Valerie & Her Week of Wonders (Audio CD)
This is the soundtrack to a remarkably evocative, dreamlike film, which depicts a girl's awakening from a child's innocence to a young woman's wider, more ambiguous world of experience. But you don't have to have seen the film to appreciate the music, which stands on its own. It mixes various motifs -- a chiming of magical earrings, children's prayers, ominous chants, a faintly malevolent carnival tune -- to create a haunting interior soundscape, one that illuminates the psyche of its heroine. You can easily imagine such a soundtrack to a darker version of Alice in Wonderland, who is definitely one of Valerie's spiritual & literary sisters. It'll appeal to both the Goth & the lover of ambient music -- highly recommended!

a wonderful job, but...the chimed earrings theme shouldn't be at the beginning and end of the CD, as it wasn't
there at the start and end of the movie...too much editorial ego getting in the way perhaps??
