More About the Author

NY Times and USA Today Bestselling Author

I'm a full time wife, mother, and author. I've been lucky enough to have spent over two decades with the love of my life and look forward to many, many more years with Mr. Laurann. I'm addicted to iced coffee, the occasional candy bar (or two), and trying to get at least five hours of sleep at night.

I love to write all kinds of stories. I think the best part about writing is the fact that real life is always uncertain, always tossing things at us that we have no control over, but when your write you can make sure there's always a happy ending. I love that about being an author. My favorite part is when I sit down at my computer desk, put on my headphones to listen to loud music to block out everything around me, so I can create worlds in front of me.

This is the third book in The New Species series, Fury, and Slade were books one & two, and were also fantastic! Don't confuse this series with Lora Leigh's breed series, the new Species series is totally fresh, and original. I'm sooo glad the Laurann kept this series, and re-edited it for current consumption, ( she originally wrote this in the early 90's). There does appear to be mate recognition in this series, it seems to be by scent, so yay for those animalistic senses! This is a great story! Valiant, is totally opposed to humans, after the horrific treatment he and his fellow New Species have received from humans, so it only makes sense that his mate be a human, (big grin here). The relationship between Tammy and Valiant moves quickly, but with a totally realistic feel to it. The dialogue is smart, the storyline is fresh, and the plot is fantastic, and the love scenes, hoo boy! The love scenes are smokin hot! As they should be, hello, this book is for grown-ups. Due to their isolation, and their animal DNA, the New Species males don't have the stereotypical reaction to emotion, thank goodness. When they feel an emotion, they own it. When they love, they do it with everything that they have. This is a refreshing take on "paranormal/sci-fi" romance. These are not fluff romances, they are charged with intense emotions, and violent situations, with an erotic edge that is just fantastic! This is a must have series!FurySladeValiant

What a great read! This is the 3rd book in the New Species series and it doesn't disappoint. Tammy is perfect for Valiant. He's one of the biggest, baddest New Species that there is & he really hates humans. All he wants is to be left alone in the Wild Zone with his house and room to roam. Even the other New Species steer clear of him. Tammy stumbles into his territory by accident and is frozen in terror at the huge, bulging man roaring & growling at her. She doesn't know if he's going to kill her or what. Once Valiant gets close enough to scent her everything changes. Everything in him screams "MINE" so he grabs her up & locks her up in his house with him ready to fight anyone that tries to take her away from him. He's ready to keep her forever but Tammy thinks he can't be serious. Valiant seduces her into having sex with him but that doesn't change Tammy's mind. Eventually she gets away and that's when the adventures really start. Tammy realizes how much she misses him but before she can let him know she gets kidnapped. Valiant is needed to rescue her because of his tracking abilities and he knows her scent. After saving her he won't let her out of his sight for a while and as she gets to know him better she starts to realize he's the right guy for her. Valiant will once again have to rescue Tammy and in the process another New Species male is found and in finding him they also find out there are more secret facilities that have more New Species that need to be freed. New Species from the previous books are included in Valiant's story (Slade, Trisha, Justice, Tiger, Flame and Breeze). It would be best to read this series in order so that you have the background on the New Species clan. As always, the sex scenes are hot and numerous and the story line keeps you on the edge of your seat.Read more ›

Another excellent book by Laurann D. I love how this book was mostly about Valiant and Tammmy, just like Fury's story. I love that Valiant says "My Tammy" my only thing is there is no clue who will be next in her series. The new Species character added "#927" towards the end really intrigues me, I can't wait to here about #927 and maybe a possible connection between Breeze and #927. (wonder what name #927 will pick out for himself)

As always the sex was excellent. I've noticed that in the 3 books so far, each one of them have a preference on how they like to have sex, with Valiants way he is right up there with Fury for me!!

This is a must buy!!!! Dowload this one, it was worth the money. I bought the e-book just 2 days ago and I'm already re-reading it. I have read Fury's story 5 times already and I know like with Valiants story, I always find something that I missed that will make me laugh or cry....

I like the world Dohner created but I'm getting tired of the rape/attempted rape scenes. They're in EVERY book. There are more interesting ways to show the bad guys are bad guys. Rape seems like a lazy way to make the audience hate the villains. Yes I get that she's trying to juxtapose the behavior of the "animals" with the horrible behavior of the humans. But there are better ways to that. It's tired and clumsy.

Valiant was introduced in Book 2 (Slade) as a truly wild creature, and one of the most ferocious of the experimental human / animal hybrids. So wild, he lives alone in a cottage deep in the woods of the protected Reservation. While few of the New Species (as they call themselves) like humans, he hates them more than most and keeps a solitary lifestyle for everyone's safety.

Tammy is a local human, trying to deliver food for a catering job on the Reservation, when she gets lost and finds herself outside Valiant's house. He isn't pleased. Especially when everyone thinks he intends to attack her.

<< "Let me come get her. Is that all right, man? Can I come into your yard to take her away?"
"No," the man-beast snarled. He threw back his head and an earsplitting roar shattered the wooded area. >>

Valiant never imagined he'd find a human female attractive. They're small. Fragile. Human. But he wants Tammy.

<< He had no real idea how to make it happen but he was a strong male, determined, and anything was possible now that he was free. He'd spent a lifetime locked in a dank cell, hurting most of the time, and always so lonely. The idea of having a mate, someone to get to know, to share life with, had become his ultimate dream. >>

As in the previous books, the threat of the anti-New Species organisation loomed large. When it became known that Tammy had embarked on a sexual relationship with Valiant, she became a target and was kidnapped - with Valiant leading the rescue.

<< "You're safe now and no one will hurt you."
"I know," she said softly. "Thank you."
He remained silent for a long moment. "You never thank me for protecting you, Tammy. You're mine. It's my duty and my honour.
