Rakotozafy is the Master,

All you have to do is to listen to other Valiha players, then listen to Rakotozafy and you will see instantly why Madagascar considers Rakotozafy to be the unrivaled master of their traditional music. You can hear him, his wife and his son playing and singing and unwittingly making history. The only disappointment is that we don't have more recordings of Rakotozafy displaying his absolute mastery of not only the Valiha but also the music of Madagascar. It is truly hypnotic.

I was exposed to Madagascar's music by David Lindley's CDs and inmediately loved it. A month ago I saw a film on Link TV about Rakotozafy and his original, tragic life intrigued me. I haven't been able to stop listening to this CD since. The rythm, melodies, harmonies and of course, the virtuoso playing of the Vailha by Rakotozafy makes for some truly magical music.
