I shopped for a roof basket for my 06 Jeep Commander. I wanted a basket that would utilize my existing factory rack. The Valley rack compares favorably to the Yakima Load Warrior at 1/2 the price. The reviews on both racks are fantastic the only con on the Yakima is price. I purchased the extension as well off Amazon for about $55.00. The rack at 38" X 62" ended up costing about $215.00. Installation was a snap.

I actually looked into building my own basket style cargo rack but really you can hardly buy the materials for the cost of this Valley Cargo Carrier. It's light weight yet very strong, great coating on it as well.

Extremely easier to put together, litterally takes just a few minutes.

The only issue is if your cross bars aren't very far apart. I have an old Jeep with a hardtop and the roof rack mounts are pretty close together. The valley basket carrier comes with four mounts to secure it to your cross bars. The problem I had is that I could only get the front ones on, on the rear mounts I couldn't get it to line up, basically I needed my bars to be another 6 or so inches farther apart.

But, this was easily fixable, I just went to the hardware store and for about 4 bucks got a few u-bolts and secured the back of the cargo carrier on with those. And the included mounts are built very well and even have quick release bots on them.

Overall I'm very happy and would still purchase again even with that one issue.

This was not my first choice of racks, but being in a time and money pinch I settled on this rack as it seemed to be reviewed well in other publications and forums for a general purpose racks. I was looking in other online retailers and was disappointed in the time it would take to get to me and the shipping charges, then out of curiosity I looked on amazon, it surprised me that this was an amazon prime listing (which I am a very satisfied member) so I ordered it immediatley, along with the extension and cargo net. It installed in minutes, is well built, although the metal tubing is not beefy, but still strong, and assembled easily. Packaged well and all parts were there. I did not like the way the bolt heads stick up above the horizontal plane of deck, as flat items will not sit completely flat in the four areas where the mounts are, but this did not really create any issues. I really loaded this thing up to, probably over its capacity but not over my roofs capacity. I was just that confident in the rack, which I will be using for quite a few years I fell. So this was money well spent in my opinion and a great deal for what you are getting..

Note that i've installed this on my 2001 blue cherokee XJ. I've attached a picture of it w/o the extension and with it.

I like this rack and I'm impressed with its mounting system. It allows the unit to work with any type of crossbars you have, thule, yakima, factory/oem. Much better than mounts i've purchased for my Thule rack/snowboard mounts which cost 30-40 bucks by themselves.

When I installed the pieces together of this rack, I used grease or some anti-sieze before sliding the tubes together. This will make it easier to pull apart later if needed. I purchased this with amazon prime and it came as expected. Do be careful as the coating on the unit is pretty thin. It is probably a very thin powdercoat. It also comes with 3 plastic caps that you put on as you see pictured. I choose not to put these on. I don't see what the actual function is besides covering up the join where the two haves go together. The piece in front seems like it would be wind resistant for when the rack is unloaded. I can see one big piece across the front if you have the rack loaded, otherwise it appears useless.

I've driven the rack on somewhat windy days, and with the rack/basket empty you can hear some noise but nothing an average person would detect. I would expect the basket even empty will reduce your MPG some, but not much.

I ordered crossbeams, the basket, the extension and the cargo net for my 2010 Jetta Sportwagen TDI. I was afraid it would not fit because I have the panoramic sunroof, but it all fit. It was all close, but it works. There is a fair amount of wind noise at 65-70mph, but not horrible. The basket and this extension are well made and go together easy. I am happy with the entire purchase.

Good product, no issues with it. Installed it on my Jeep Cherokee Classic.

Not constructed for extremely super heavy loads, but will do the job for day to day & for serious off-roading.

I was extremely dissapointed to find that one of the main pipes had a dink in it (a bump) which is very noticible. This was probably there originally from the seller probably Southwest Wheel, because this was likely the last one they had in stock!

Not vey impressed !!! Good product, but not happy with the seller !!! Just my bad luck !

NOTE: 8 months later... Have installed my spare tyre on the roof rack and it holds up really well - impressive - looks great too!!!

Basket is very sturdy and well built for what it is. Package was heavy duty and assembly was easy. Brackets worked perfect on my flat oval cross bars and it looks like it would also work well on tubular cross bars. Overall I'm very pleased with the product. Have been thinking about buying the extension as well. I would not put this on a full size vehicle because I think it would be too small. Works well on my Explorer and fits the smaller suv/truck well.

Works great for the jeep cherokee!! Fits awsome with the extention!! Great price. Glad I didnt buy a Yakima or Thule!!

Once I was in the market to get a roof rack I shopped around quite a bit and found some name brand options, some of which were quite expensive but after some looking around I found the Valley roof rack. Up till now I only have known Valley for their trailers and associated equipment.

With this purchase I also got the extension, and the cargo net. These products were easy to put together, and everything was expected out of the box. The rack with extension works great for my 2002 Toyota 4Runner, it fits perfectly. I can see through the sunroof without obstruction and still open the back tailgate. I have used this on quite a few trips already and it is durable (so far) and has plenty of space. I would definitely recommend this product as I would purchase again.

Save your money get this rack system. I ordered this and the extension for my Jeep Grand Cherokee. High quality item as good as the higher prices baskets!!!
