5.0 out of 5 stars good idea, great execution
We have been flying our US flag using this light since spring and wish we had had one for years. We can now fly our flag daily and don't have to worry about taking it down. The light quality is more than adequate for our house mounted flagpole. If I were to put it on an in ground flagpole (and we're about to install one next month), I would need to put it far up in the...

(REAL NAME)
I fly the American Flag nearly 365 days of the year and only take it down to replace it or during severe wind or weather. That being the case, flag etiquette states that "The American Flag must be lit by a light when flown at night." Not wanting to hire an electrician to run power to my flag pole, and since stretching an extension cord across the yard was not an option, this looked like the perfect solution. Boy was I wrong and truly disappointed by this product.

When it did work, the light only dimly illuminated the flag. To get decent lighting, one would have to install it near the top of the pole, right below the flag, which in turn would interfere with the operation of the pulleys and rope. In addition, the solar battery only lasts a short period of time and not through the entire night. As time wears on the light becomes dimmer, and dimmer, and a few hours later the flag is left in the dark.

Finally, the biggest drawback to this product is the fact that it attach's directly to the flag pole itself and is subject to the stresses of the pole's motion. When the wind gusts, the pole moves and at times that movement can be quite substantial. This in turn shakes the light and all its components. The light seems sturdy by design but has its weak points, like the small sized wire that attach's the solar panel to the light fixture for instance. Every time the pole moves, the light moves, and this takes its toll on the fixture. My patriot light only lasted 6 months.

Bottom line, it's a pretty good idea and seems functional but the design needs to be sturdier and the light needs to be much brighter. Until then, your money would be better spent on a regular solar spotlight to sit at the bottom of your flag pole.

We have been flying our US flag using this light since spring and wish we had had one for years. We can now fly our flag daily and don't have to worry about taking it down. The light quality is more than adequate for our house mounted flagpole. If I were to put it on an in ground flagpole (and we're about to install one next month), I would need to put it far up in the pole, close to the flag, which is what the manufacturer intended, and since there aren't any cords needed, this wouldn't be a problem. The instructions are easy to follow and it has been maintenance free. We love it and highly recommend it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Liberty Light Review, August 19, 2009
This review is from: Valley Forge The Liberty Light 60 LUX Residential Solar Flagpole Light (Lawn & Patio)
Easily installed. Good quality. The only item of dissatisfaction is the light output. Item stated up to 12 hours. Naturally, that's in a prefect world. But, I'll be lucky to get 6-8 hours after charging in FULL direct sun for 10-12 hours.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Light for the right application, June 3, 2009

This review is from: Valley Forge The Liberty Light 60 LUX Residential Solar Flagpole Light (Lawn & Patio)
I purchased this light for a residential 25 foot flagpole. It does exactly as advertised. The light perfectly illuminates my flag. The downside is that it does have to be mounted fairly high on the pole. This means that when the flag needs to be flown at half-mast, I can only lower it about 1/3 of the way. There is also not enough room to fly a second flag under the American flag, which I would like to do. All in all, this is a good light so far. If the illumination was somewhat stronger so that it could be mounted lower, it would be a welcome improvement.

I loved this the first few months. Then one of the lights went out and the solar panel was dying. Don't get this.

I am disappointed in this Solar Light for the flag. It does not shine bright nor for the length of time that was indicated. Would not recommend the product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Liberty Flagpole Light, September 18, 2008
This review is from: Valley Forge The Liberty Light 60 LUX Residential Solar Flagpole Light (Lawn & Patio)
I've had one of these for almost a year. It has proved reliable and durable, however the light output is poor, but about what I expected for the price. OK in a rural (dark) environment, but I don't think it would be adequate in an urban setting with lots of ambient light. Can't tell that its on when there is a full moon.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money, April 6, 2010

We've had this light for over a year. It worked fairly well for about a month after the solar light was fully charged (which took a long time). It seldom works now and fills with water every time it rains. The concept is great but this product is not worth the money.

1.0 out of 5 stars not recommended.poor, April 6, 2010
This review is from: Valley Forge The Liberty Light 60 LUX Residential Solar Flagpole Light (Lawn & Patio)
At first after purchasing i thought this would be adequate for my needs as a flag pole light. However even in complete darkness you can't see the flag lit up. Now after a few months one of the two bulbs in it do not work. It does not appear that they come out without unsoldering them so....its junk

This is a useful product, and easy to use, to keep your flag lit and flying all the time. It's saving me time and energy.
