The quality of the game is very high. There are some mistakes (in terms of some printed values on the board, etc.), but doing some online research you will find a set of fixes you can print out. The tokens and board and cards and other miscellaneous materials are very good. I think the educational value is very high also, which is why I bought it, but be warned, games are approximately 3-5 hours in length and you need four dedicated gamers to play it. I have had it for a few months and still haven't been able to play it once, though you can do a solitaire version (recommended to get used to the very complex rules, but not much fun in itself). The real fun seems to be in the dealings between factions (players) in the Senate phase of the game each year.

One problem with Republic of Rome,

You can consider me a bit of a game elitist. That is, I'm willing to study games and figure out all of their little inner workings. Republic of Rome is tried and true - its been around for years, and for good reason: You will not find a better game that simulates political intrigue.
If I had ONE problem with it, it's that it's hard to find players that are willing to truly learn the game. It has a steep learning curve, and you will be lost for your first FEW games. |
