Old product, not fresh, arrived in plastic bag, smells nothing like real Valrhona.

I've used Valrhona cocoa for years. This isn't it.
Chefs and cooks who order Valrhona know what to expect from this brand of cocoa -- Valrhona is the most intense
cocoa -- with the most intense aromatics -- out there.
The product arrived in a generic plastic bag with no label, and was sealed with a twisty tie.
No jar, as pictured, no label of authenticity, no seal of freshness.
The plastic bag indicates this cocoa was filled from a big bulk box, a box that's probably not been
sealed up tight, been sitting awhile, and probably an old product. .
When you open a foil pouch of genuine Valrhona cocoa, the smell is so intensely aromatic,
others can smell it across a large room.
When I opened the plastic bag from my order, the cocoa smelled nothing like Valrhona.
This cocoa is dead -- it's either not Valrhona or stale Valrhona.
In any case, it's unacceptable, especially at $15 a pound. Don't waste your money.
Why is Caputo's packaging Valrhona this way, and not providing the product in a sealed jar,
as pictured in the Amazon listing?
In regards to freshness and aromatics and product acceptability, does Caputo's really think
the chefs and cooks who seek out Valrhona won't notice the huge difference between this dead cocoa and the real thing?

Great smell and taste, however, when I was whipping up a batch of premade hot cocoa mix, ala Alton Brown, I heard a funny sound in my food processor. Turns out there's a small pkg of silica gel to prevent moisture in the container. To my horror, I had been drinking silica gel! UGH! So look before you leap! Other than that it's an excellent product.

I have purchased several different cocoa powders for baking and beverage making. I usually use Van Houten or Bensdorf but was eager to try something new. The first Valrhona batch I received was in a plastic jar but the inner seal was open. The cocoa had a decidedly smoky taste and smell--like powdered ham stock. It was truly terrible. The company was quick to respond with a second jar, but that too had an open inner seal and smelled like smoked ham. Not good. It was pricey, so one should expect packaging that would protect the subtle flavors. The possibility of tampering is scary too. I seem not to be able to get a decent product. Very disappointing.
