This review is from: Valse de Bachir (Waltz with Bashir) (Audio CD)
After seeing the moving animated movie, we were driven to purchase the soundtrack. Of the three Max Richter albums in our collection (the other two being "Blue Notebooks" and his contribution to the soundtrack of "Shelter Island"), "Waltz with Bachir" has been played the least. This album is a good safe choice for listeners interested in sampling ambient music with a caution that this is not an "ambient" album. There are a couple of tracks that are sort of "euro dance techno", a couple of songs that could be taken right from the Blue Man Group and there is one track that has an annoying amount of bass that although during the movie was appropriate for the setting, when you have the CD playing and it comes on it may be somewhat annoying to the ear.If you liked the music while watching the movie you certainly will enjoy this CD and will have no surprises nor will you be disappointed. If you are looking for a complex collection of percussion, beats, and uses of techno instrumentation you will enjoy this CD. If you are interested in hearing quiet reflection music by Max Richter - I would recommend you start with "Blue Notebooks" first. This CD is listened to in my home while working and I have it on my MP3 and have listened to it while flying. It is not a CD for sleeping even though a few tracks are very contemplative, the CD in its entirety has too much going on for rest. This reviews is for the imported version, we could not find the album in English.

A good sample from a promising composer,

This review is from: Valse de Bachir (Waltz with Bashir) (Audio CD)
This is the almost complete original soundtrack of the movie - the PIL song is not the same as in the movie and Lebanon song wasn't included. Since I'm talking about the french edition, be aware that if you aren't fluent in french AND have a powerfull loupe, you won't read nothing on the booklet. But, let's go straight to the point: This is a collection of themes and fragments - most around 1 - 2 minutes long - of the soundtrack music used on the homonimous movie. Most of them are very climatic, coherently somber and darker. They evoke the atmosphere and the feelings brought by the movie. As for the audio quality in itself, they are mostly so-so, with one or other track above average. Acceptable but far from demonstration level. As for the music in itself, if you like progressive and minimalism, you'll certainly enjoy this one. IMHO a very good sample of the composers (Max Richter) potential.
