A GREAT MEXICAN WALTZ CD,
By Juan Olvera (Orlando, Florida United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Valses (Audio CD)
There is one waltz missing on the cd: Rosas' Sobre Las Olas. Other than that this is cd is very pretty. Anything with Solis' voice is worth the price to get.

El lirismo de Javier,
By
This review is from: Valses (Audio CD)

Pleasant But Hardly Outstanding,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Valses (Audio CD)
Even though I grew up hearing lots Mexican music at home, I don't recall ever hearing Javier Solis. But recently one of his other albums was recommended to me by a reviewer who has read many of my reviews, so I ordered it (Fantasia Espanola de Agustin Lara) and liked it well enough to try another Solis recording. I like waltzes, and the price was right so I settled on Valses as my second Solis outing.Well, I find it to be pleasant but hardly outstanding. There is not a single tune that I'd heard before (and I am familiar with literally hundreds of Mexican classics) nor is there a single tune that I find memorable. Solis has a great voice, its just too bad that he chose a group of rather bland songs on which to use it. If I was forced to pick a "favorite", it would be Ojos de Juventud. But even that is not all that great of a song. So as far as Valses goes, I have to remain neutral and give no recommendation one way or the other except to try the Solis covers of Lara if you haven't heard them yet. |
