5.0 out of 5 stars This stuff is fantastic for a DIY'r
I have used Valspar Ceiling Color Changing Ceiling Paint with great success! It goes on a violet color and dries Ultra White leaving a great looking ceiling. The problem the other posts with negative comments might have ran into is if you put it on to thick or in an area that does not have proper circulation for paint to dry all quickly, those areas might take a lot...

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware of this paint, it leaves a purple stain!
Hello,
I just tried to paint over a previously painted area that I painted yesterday, and the overlap part stayed purple. I have to agree with a posting I read on the GardenWeb that states re-painting an area can reactivate the purple/pink in the paint. The new area you painted will not blend with the old area, ever. It will look like the ceiling is stained...

1.0 out of 5 stars Beware of this paint, it leaves a purple stain!, October 21, 2010
This review is from: Valspar 027.0001420.007 Color Changing Ceiling Paint (Misc.)
Hello,
I just tried to paint over a previously painted area that I painted yesterday, and the overlap part stayed purple. I have to agree with a posting I read on the GardenWeb that states re-painting an area can reactivate the purple/pink in the paint. The new area you painted will not blend with the old area, ever. It will look like the ceiling is stained purple. I have a 2,200 sf ceiling that I am very angry about having to repaint because of this problem. The ceiling was properly primed. I have read that you have to prime the area again with an oil primer to block the activation process. Wow, how can they sell such a product? The paint goes on okay, and dries okay, but you can not paint over it if you are trying to blend it in with a newly painted area, even if you use the exact same paint from the same paint can a day or two later. In my case, I separated my ceiling into 3 areas planning to paint each area about 3 days apart as I had to move a lot of furniture around. It looks terrible and now I will have to paint the whole ceiling again (1 primer, and 2 top coats already). Do yourself a favor and stay away from this paint!

Despite following the directions and allowing far more drying time than the directions indicated we still had poor coverage and sporadic purple streaks.

1.0 out of 5 stars Purple Haze, May 17, 2010
This review is from: Valspar 027.0001420.007 Color Changing Ceiling Paint (Misc.)
What a waste of a Sunday night and a waste of my shoulder stength for the day. My girlfriend went to the store and bought this and said she saw it in some magazine. I went with it. After I was done it didn't look good, I could see some purple tint hours after I finished and the edges where I had to use a different roller looked awful. Anyways, I said I'd give it a day to see how it looked. Well the first thought I had when I saw it the next day after work was "great, another day of neck strain". So unless you like painting a ceiling twice or a purple haze, I would look elsewhere.

I have used Valspar Ceiling Color Changing Ceiling Paint with great success! It goes on a violet color and dries Ultra White leaving a great looking ceiling. The problem the other posts with negative comments might have ran into is if you put it on to thick or in an area that does not have proper circulation for paint to dry all quickly, those areas might take a lot longer to dry thus "blue streaks" but they go away when completely dry. Also, when the paint is in it's first stage of drying, it appears "chalky" and not "ultra white" but again, when it dries it dries to a beautiful crisp white ceiling!

Money well spent!

1.0 out of 5 stars Worthless, June 13, 2009
This review is from: Valspar 027.0001420.007 Color Changing Ceiling Paint (Misc.)
I agree 100% with the previous reviews. This paint is an absolute waste of time & money. I'm covering a 6x8 closet ceiling and after the THIRD coat the light off-white/ivory that the ceiling used to be is STILL showing through. Waste of energy, waste of time, waste of money. Don't bother with it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible Results, Waste of Money, March 3, 2009
This review is from: Valspar 027.0001420.007 Color Changing Ceiling Paint (Misc.)
This product was so thin it splattered a lot and left a ton of roller marks. After 6 hours of painting one small ceiling, being careful to go over every inch with a lot of paint, the next day I found I could still see the pale beige color underneath! It will take at least another coat if not 2 more. Not to mention that the purple dried so fast that I didn't see any benefit to it. I would paint a section and 5 minutes later it was already white and I was struggling to make out missed spots again. Don't waste your money!

I don't expect anyone is going to be ordering this item on Amazon, but I figured I'd write a review anyway just in case. Kind of like the reason you offered the Brooklyn Bridge to a mark; you just never know....

Anyway, this is supposed to be color-changing paint, light purple to white. "Never miss a spot." Well, it goes on light purple and it...stays light purple (streaks). When I approached the knowledgable people at Lowe's regarding this problem, they suggested that the problem was my technique of stirring. My gosh, I used a stirring paint stick. When that wasn't good enough, I shook the gallon can. Good workout, but no improvement. Lowe's response? "You need a paint shaker." Rrrright. I am an average home DIY'er, I have no desire for a paint shaker...To which the gentleman replied that I could bring the gallon over and have it shaken every time I needed to lay a coat down. Clearly in this instance, i AM the mark.

While I thank Lowe's for the courteous offer (albeit time consuming), I think this ceiling paint is apparently a great idea for someone who has a paint shaker. For the rest of us who prefer the usual method of stirring (or getting beefy biceps with a side of shoulder tendonitis), I think I'll stick with the standard goes-on-white, dries-white variety. Valspar's standard "Ultra Premium White Ceiling Paint" works very well...I recommend it over the above. This can be used for the undercoat.

Two week update: Well, I decided to give it one more try on the closet ceiling. Most ceiling paint is not a thin coat; this paint is no exception and it will eventually dry white in 2 weeks time, not 1 week. No purple streaks after all. And it is an ultra white. So I'd raised my rating to 3 stars if I could, but this product does take patience.

1.0 out of 5 stars wish I had read these reviews first, September 17, 2011
This review is from: Valspar 027.0001420.007 Color Changing Ceiling Paint (Misc.)
I wish I had read these reviews about Valspar ultra premium ceiling paint before I bought it. My ceiling looks awful with purple areas and streaks in several places. I am going to have to do it over. I don't think it is my technique because I used another brand of ceiling white on another ceiling and it looks just fine.

1.0 out of 5 stars Horrible horrible HORRIBLE!, September 16, 2011
This review is from: Valspar 027.0001420.007 Color Changing Ceiling Paint (Misc.)
I was extremely unsatisfied with this product. I found the paint to be extremely thin that the primer was showing through AND it turned out extremely streaky. Not to mention the millions of bubbles formed in the paint so i have to start all over again in order to not have my hallway look horrendous! I will not be recommending this paint to anyone!

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst paint ever!, December 13, 2010
This review is from: Valspar 027.0001420.007 Color Changing Ceiling Paint (Misc.)
We are on our 3rd coat and have to redo our entire livingroom & diningroom. Paint went on streaky it was just horrible. We did prime and that was a beautiful finish. Wish we had stopped there. We used a para paint primer. Should have stuck with Para. We now have streaks everywhere. I have painted for years and have never encountered this problem before. What a disappointment. Wasted money and time.
