First rate entry-level phone,
By
This review is from: Aastra 9120 Telephone Charcoal (Office Product)
I was a little reluctant to order this given i'd never heard of Aastra, nor was i able to find any reviews online to guide me. but now that i have it, i'm very happy with the purchase. the phone works and sounds great and setup is a snap. the speakerphone quality in particular is always a concern of mine, but it works very well on this system. easy redial, line 1 and line2 buttons, multiple ring tones, conference call, caller id - it's all here.
i do have a couple of gripes with the phone. first, the buttons look and feel very plasticky LEGO-like cheap, almost popping out it seems everytime you press them. they do work perfect so far so this may not mean anything. also, for whatever reason my Plantronics headset has a little extra reverb now, which was non-existent in my old high-end Lucent phone. it's a tad bothersome since it's something i use daily. lastly, the navigation menu itself may be a tad confusing for some. nonetheless, should be a comfortable choice for those seeking a reliable entry-level small business phone.

Good SOHO speaker phone,
By cheilly (Flemington, NJ) - See all my reviews

Looked long and hard for a good 2-line SOHO speakerphone after experiences with Polycom 2201 (feedback & caller id incompatibility) and AT&T 962 (display freeze during caller waiting id). The AASTRA 9120 fit the bill and does not disappoint. Pros - compact, tilting backlit display, intuitive keypad operation, good speakerphone, programmable call forwarding active indicator, not over complicated. Cons - Inability to determine how to store or redial caller id numbers with a 1 in front.

Awesome Affordable Telephone,

This review is from: Aastra 9120 Telephone Charcoal (Office Product)
If you are just starting a business this is an awesome starter phone. I was reluctant to order this given i'd never heard of Aastra but after seeing some of the good prices compared to other similar phones, I decided to go with this one. So far I am very happy with my decision. Mechanically the phone works perfectly and sounds awesome. Setup is so quick compared to other phones I have looked at. Out of the box- setup is literally 10 minutes and you're connected! Speaker phone is pretty good. If you are on the border on whether to get this setup, I personally recommend it.
Pros- Easy to use, simple/sleek design, easy to use options, multiple lines and ring tones, conference calls are easily made, caller id, compact Cons- doesn't look the best but some may love the simplicity that this phone provides In brief, this little phone will not disappoint, it's the whole package in a compact phone.

Aastra bought Nortel phone business,
This review is from: Aastra 9120 Telephone Charcoal (Office Product)
Nortel made analog telephone sets for a long time. Aastra Tech (another Canadian company) bought that business several years ago. The old sets were great. The 9120 set from Aastra has the same feature set as the old Nortel 9417 but a slightly different shape. It is solid and works fine for me.

I hate this phone,

It won't let you hang up! The buttons do not function as buttons in the conventional sense: the phone is entirely software based, and the OS -- whatever it is -- frequently "hangs." So you'll do something like push a button or hang up the receiver, but nothing will happen until the software permits it, since the buttons only send software instructions and do nothing mechanically. It is incredibly frustrating to use this phone.Beware of slamming the receiver down and calling someone a "nitwit:" the phone hasn't hung up yet!

Meets our needs but not perfect,

We bought this phone because it had two lines and can operate without electricity (in case the power goes out and we need to make a phone call).
At first, we couldn't get the phone to work without plugging it in to an outlet, but it did turn out to work just fine with no power. The speaker phone is great for listening in on conference calls, but it is not good for speaking up. People cannot hear me over the speaker phone, and I always have to pick up the hand set. My headphones that work with iPhones and the newer Blackberries do not fit into this phone's headphone jack, so I have not been able to test out that feature. Since our only requirements were for the phone to accommodate two lines and operate without power, this product has far exceeded our expectations with its additional features.

I've tried something like eight different 2-line phones over the last eight years - GE, RCA, Panasonic, AT&T - and never been happy. The Panasonic came close, but then I bought this phone - it has served me quite well for four years now - and works as well today as the day I bought it. The phone is well thought out and performs well. Sound quality is excellent (I use a headphone almost exclusively, but when I use the handset, it works well too). If I have one gripe, it's this: If you are using the phone and a call comes in on the other line, the phone emits a loud click/pop into the ear-piece with every ring, and the caller's voice drops out for about a second. The phone itself thoughtfully mutes it's ringer, but instead you get this pop in your ear. Otherwise, I like it.

Good Phone Not Great,
By
This review is from: Aastra 9120 Telephone Charcoal (Office Product)
Received this phone last week. Upon inspection found it to be small and plain looking, no frills. Hook up was easy. Pretty much no set up needed, time and date automaticaly updated. After a few days of use, here are my pros and cons:
Pros: Height adjustable LCD screen Lighted LCD screen Easy to use Side Headphone jack Cons: No speaker phone button - when using a headset, you can't switch to speaker phone unless you unplug your headphones. Caller ID for second line does not automaticaly show, you have to scroll over to view. To scroll through caller ID calls, you have to go through multiple button selections. When a second line call comes in there is a loud clicking noise in the speaker and the current call goes mute for a second. Can be anoying if your in the middle of a call. |
