Book Description

Prentice-Hall Career & Personal Development January 15, 1995
Recognizing the decline of employee commitment and motivation and the corresponding effect on corporate performance, this text offers a model to re-invigorate companies and restore the heart and soul of organizations. The "Anomic Management" model helps organizations replace prevalent feelings of drift, powerlessness and an "I don't care" attitude with a renewed sense of commitment.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

It has become quite fashionable today to decry a lack of values in society, and this lament has even carried over into management literature. One of the major trends in business books now is to stress the need for values, norms, social responsibility, stewardship, or trust in order to shape management--or more precisely--leadership. (In the organizational setting these terms are less likely to be used as code words representing hidden political or social agendas.) The Kuczmarskis are husband and wife; he heads a Chicago-based management consulting firm, she is executive vice president at the firm and an educator and trainer specializing in leadership skills. The Kuczmarskis hark back 100 years to when Emile Durkheim coined the term anomie to describe what they say was a similar era of normlessness with the same resulting sense of isolation and purposelessness. Their book is an attempt to teach managers leadership techniques that will help develop shared norms and values that all employees can subscribe to. This review is from: Values-Based Leadership: Rebuilding Employee Commitment, Performance and Productivity (Prentice-Hall Career & Personal Development) (Hardcover)
Some books have some good theories but little practical advice on how to make theory work in the everyday workplace. Others have helpful anecdotes about the real world but don't provide the theoretical overview needed to apply another individual's lessons to one's own special circumstances. This book provides both. It describes sophisticated theories and complex strategies in easy-to-understand language and then gives lots of real-world-based examples that bring the big ideas to life.

This book is an invaluable guide to surviving and prospering in today's diverse workplace.
