The keys to a better life. No kidding., November 15, 2009
This review is from: Valuocity: A Fable for Dentists (Paperback)
Definition: ' Fable:: a narration intended to enforce a useful truth.'
Useful truth is an understatement. This book, these authors, are fantastic. Valuocity is described as a fable for dentists. While it is true that there are many dentally related issues within the book, this book is about life. Dentistry is only the medium through which they tell the story.
Much like the books of Jim Collins, the lessons within apply to anyone, to any business, to any situation. Our core values, understanding who we are and why we do what we do is so important to every relationship in our lives. Marc and Mark are great storytellers, but as I read this, it feels like a narrative, a replay, like looking into the mirror. It is emotional for me, because I have lived, and am living this 'fable'. I hope it doesn't get pigeonholed as a dental book, because it's so much more than that. It reminds me of Hemingway quote:
'All good books have one thing in common - they are truer than if they had really happened.' This book rings true in every word. Buy it.

Not Just For Dentists!, February 17, 2010
This review is from: Valuocity: A Fable for Dentists (Paperback)
This book is fantastic! I'm in the financial industry and can boldly testify that it applies to my profession. It was so inspiring to me, I gave a copy to my manager and every client and friend that owns a business. If you truly want to rejuvenate yourself and your business, this is a quick and easy weekend read loaded with ideas. It's not the typical "how to manual" that's a great read but never gets you to take action. Instead, it's a fable that walks you through a life of a business owner struggling to keep his business in the economic downturn. It's so well written, you immediately connect with the main character. The book beautifully illustrates how the main character identified his areas of "weakness" and created solutions to immediately improve. Once you finish reading the book, your head is swimming with ideas to implement....and the book does a great job of walking you through taking that difficult step. Hopefully, the big corporations of America can find the time to read this novel. If you are a serious business owner trying to make your business better, you'll want to read this book before hiring an expensive consultant.
