I almost didn't make it through the first couple of chapters of Vampire Academy, the first book in Richelle Mead's terrific vampire series. I'm so glad that I pushed past some of the little things that annoyed me early on, that I stuck with it and that I went ahead with book two even though the first one left, IMHO, a few things to be desired. (Among other quibbles, I found it a little too "high school".) Hands down, the Vampire Academy series has developed into the BEST vampire series I have read. Period. I am already mourning the fact that book six, Last Sacrifice will be the final entry. (Of course, I'm also eagerly awaiting its release next month - such is the dichotomy of a reader's life.)

Mead's characters have depth and life, her plot is complicated and engrossing and the world she has created is believably real. Shades of grey cover every aspect of this series and, for me, constitute its greatest strength. There are no flat characters here, no simple solutions or easy outs. Life can be hard in these pages, decisions heart-wrenching.

Mead's skill in pulling us into Rose's world grows with each book. The first four - Vampire Academy, Frostbite, Shadow Kiss and Blood Promise are included in this box set. (Book five, Spirit Bound, is currently only available in hardcover and, as mentioned above, book six will be out next month.)

If you have not yet given this series a chance, please, please do. It is a very worthy addition to any paranormal library and its appeal will not be limited to young adults.

I absolutely love this series. I am very picky when it comes to YA novels and this one is by far my favorite in the Young Adult genre. Its hard finding a YA that you can really love the characters and has a solid, interesting, shocking storyline. Richelle Mead is an excellent author, probably my favorite and i cannot say enough good things about her books. This series would be perfect for those who loved Twilight. Many people have asked me what are some good books to read after twilight and this is always my first recommendation. Though it is YA things get pretty spicy. I'm not sure how I would feel about my 12yo niece reading this, i would feel more comfortable if 15-16 year olds were reading it. Its still YA so it cant get too crazy but myself personally i wouldn't give it to a 12-13yo. The first book is harmless, its the around the 3 or 4th books when its gets hot and heavy(but you never actually read about sex, it just leads up to it).

This is a good deal for the first 4 books in paperback. there are now a total of six in the series with the last coming out in december so if you buy this you will not have the complete series.

The author did a great job with descriptions. You can really connect with the characters. I can't wait for the final book.

I just finished the last book and I was truly captivated I love these books I would rather see this turned into a movie that that stupid Twilight. Please Please PLEASE make these into a movie!!!! GET THEM - READ THEM - YOU'LL LOVE UM!!! I do feel bad about a certain character though and I hope he finds his happy ending in the up coming new books

I was referred to this book series by the Twilight Saga Authors & The Hatchett Book Club.

Once I received my 4 book collection this past Thursday, I read them in three days over the weekend and was immediately obssessed with Lissa, Rose, Dimitri and the Author Ms. Richelle Mead. I can't wait for my next two books two arrive so I can continue my journey with this Excellent story.

Wow! I fell in love with Stephenie Meyer's Edward & Bella's Romance on the Twilight Saga! But Ms. Mead has won my heart with this powerful friendship & bond between Rose & Lissa, and the will Rose has to betray once again all her teachings as a Guardian to Protect the Moroi Princess Lissa, to save Dimitri from the dark Strigoi's power.

Excellent storyline! I Love It So Much!

My heart wants more Vampire friendship, bond, guardians, and forbidden love.

On The Saga I'm Known as Twi-EmmettCullenBreakingTwilight

I loved "Twilight" and had read a few of the Sookie Stackhouse novels. I'm also a big fan of "The Vampire Diaries" TV show and "True Blood." So one night after watching TVD, I remembered how much I loved reading vampire romances. A totally guilty pleasure.

I did a search on Amazon for anything that was comparable to "Twilight," since that, in its way, had been totally absorbing. I came across this series. I know that I've seen these books before, but I had serious doubts. I thought that it was just a "Twilight" spin-off series and there was no way it could be that interesting with the cheesy covers, but the plethora of five star reviews made me intrigued. Also, don't judge a book by its cover, right?)

I ordered the box set of four. Something instinctually (or MAYBE it was the reviewer that said she was miserable after she read one and had to wait for the next one to come- I've been there before!) told me that I'd need at least the first four...I'm so glad I did!

This is, hands down, the best vampire series I've read yet. From the beginning, Rose is this complex mixture of strong, damaged, caring, sexy, whiny, but however she presents, you can't help but like her. The way Richelle Mead channels her, she comes across as very realistic. There are so many layers, you're bound to see a bit of yourself in her. Even when she does manage unrealistic feats, you find yourself says, "Well, if anyone could do that, Rose Hathaway could..."

All of her characters- Lissa, Christian, Adrian, Mia -Mead has created such wonderful surprises with them that you never know what to expect.

And Dimitri. Save the best for last. Dimitri is a god. You find yourself and Rose falling in love with him at the same time. He holds back, but then, gives in. He's her teacher, her guide, but their love is so passionate it transcends a LOT of things. By book four, I oddly found myself with these weird conflicting emotions. He'd broken my heart, but I still couldn't hate him, despite everything he'd done.

Seriously, if you're going through "Twilight" withdrawal, you won't know what hit you when you get these books. I have not been able to put them down and couldn't recommend them more highly!

This is one of the most interesting of the many teen vampire series. Strong characters, bit of mystery, romances and some interesting twists with lots of action makes this my favorite series of this type.

I needed a new series to read so I ordered this set for no reason other than amazom recomending it. I love it, and I even came back to order the other two. So if this series has been recomended to you (I guessing from previous orders) then you should do it, you won't regret it.

I came across this little gem of a series a year ago and I wish it got the much needed love it truly deserves! Books 1-4 chronicles Rose and Lissa as they finish their last year of school. But what makes Mead's series so superior to the millions of other vampire series' out there is her ability to write a compelling story that is well paced and intriguing. Don't get me wrong, Twilight is great, but what makes Rose and Lissa so awesome is that they aren't filled with so much whinny angst. Rose knows what she wants and isn't afraid to say it and go after it either. In addition, not everything is sunshine and butterflies. Overall, the series is well written and just doesn't have a dull moment!

-Bk one starts with the first semester of Rose and Lissa's last year of high school.

-Bk two covers their winter break in a lux resort.

-Bk three delves deeper into the bond that Rose and Lissa share, as well as Rose and Dimitri's relationship.

-Bk four is where everything changes. Rose has to search for what she has lost and finds out a lot about her past.

There is so much more to the series, but without any spoiler alerts you kind of just have to go out and read it!

This box set is an amazing deal and well worth buying if you are interested in any of these books. You easily get lost in the world that Richelle Mead has created. I will say though, that the first book was not as interesting as the other books, but it is worth the read. If you are a fan of the Twilight books, then I am sure you will enjoy these books.
