5.0 out of 5 stars Better then Twilight and I loved Twilight!
Love Love Loved them!

I read all four books last week. I borrowed them from my Mum and didnt think they sounded very interesting from the blurb on the back. So it took me a few weeks to actually bother to start reading them. However, once I started I couldnt stop and now I'm dying having to wait until Spirit Bound comes out in May 2010. I have already started...

versus
2.0 out of 5 stars Eh
Not really feeling the series.
Niece read it as well, she is the target audience, and the creepy "sleep with your teacher" thing was just stomach turning and there were parts of the story where they just didn't flow and it appeared to be more of an afterthought of OH THIS WOULD BE AWESOME TO ADD so it came out of nowhere and didn't connect to the rest of the story...

I have already started reading them again.

I think great books are ones that have you captivated, so that you want to spend every spare minute reading them to know what happens. Like your life is the distraction. You associate with the characters and feel the full range of emotions with them. You laugh, you cry, you fall in love, your happy, sad or angry etc.

I have only read a few books in my life that have made me want to spend every second reading them. I loved Twilight and never thought I'd like any books as much.
However, I must admit I think I liked Vampire Academy better. For those Twilight fans who sometimes got annoyed at Bella's character I think you'll love Rose. Oh and Dimitri is HOT HOT HOT! I only cried when Edward left in New Moon, but I had tears rolling down my cheeks at some stage in each of the 4 VA books.

For parents thinking of letting your teenager read VA. Sex scenes are only as detailed as in Breaking Dawn, but happen between unmarried people. Each book contains a handful of swear words also, which the Twilight books didnt have. Students do a fair bit of drinking and theres some drug use, though in most cases the bad consequences of drinking are highlighted, hangovers, making a fool of yourself, making poor decisions and regretting them later etc.

I highly recommend reading them!

These books have always gotten good reviews, so I took the plunge and bought the boxed set. What a great deal this was too, instead of buying single copies of the books, the set is a great price. After reading, I have to say I immediately ordered the next book and was not disappointed! Wow can this author write.

I ordered this set not knowing how many books were in it. The answer is 3--the first three books come in this set. Maybe it stated that somewhere, but I could not find it.

I have enjoyed this series- other books I have also enjoyed are Mortal Instruments series, Twilight series, Lightening Theif series, and Sookie Stackhouse Series.
The unique thing about the Vampire Academy series, is reading from Rose's point of view- who is confient and head-strong. She really knows who she is and what she is all about; and goes to extreme lengths to do what she feels is right.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the best vampire series out there...., March 2, 2010

Let me tell you, I'll read just about anything, I don't care if it's young adult or adult. I love vampire stories, and after my best friend got me started on the House of Night books, I discovered that I really like getting into a full series with 4-8 books in it. The character development can span thousands of pages verses just getting a few hundred in any given book.

While I thought the House of Night(HON) series was entertaining, this one was far better. I'm 29, so this is more of an adult perspective, but I personally found the Vampire Academy series to be less kiddie(and annoying) then HON. The story has some real meat to it, and I felt more invested in the outcome. Great adventure, amazing battles and epic, torturous romance that really draws you in. All elements I look for in a really good book.

The main character, Rose, has that sarcastic wit that I love, and all of the characters felt well rounded and developed. The story line in general is very creative and inventive. Not the typical one sided vampire story, here we have good and bad vampires. I am now not so patiently waiting for the 5th book in the series! The HON I can really give or take the upcoming book, but I'm ravenous for Spirit Bound. The Vampire Academy series is definitely worth checking out, no matter your age.

...i read the whole set in one week! it has been awhile since i've sat down and focused and read because of my a.d.d. but oh my! i could not put the books down...did not want to be bothered as i was focused on each chapters that I could not seem to take a break from. I even brought it to work and vacation for thanksgiving! anti-social or what!? : ) but i could not say anything negative about the books. I love them and I can feel all the crazy events that took place and my heart went crazy...got me hooked and anxious! I cannot wait for the rest of the series coming up. I do agree that it reminded me of harry potter but more bad ass! it had mixed of actions, magic, romace, action, dreams, I love it! I recommend it with two thumbs up.

I love books about vampires. Yes, obviously I've read Twilight series but I have to say.. After reading Twilight, I had been trying hard to find books which will get me hooked. Twilight series had their boring moment which I felt like skipping but forced myself to endure it. With Vampire Academy series? No way, it is interesting and intense all the way. Even introducing so many characters throughout the 4 books I've read so far, I've been following the stories on each character closely. If you are into such stories about vampires (and more), you'll never regret buying VA series.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "Must Read" for the Fans of the Genre !, November 30, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Vampire Academy Collection (Paperback)
First hand, I must say that this book is by far better than Twilight.
No offense, I did enjoy reading that series and it is kina true
that it is because of Twilight that I started looking into those paranormal/
urban legend fantasy books. And THIS is a wonderful find.

I loved how the author developed the characters, slow but intense.
I know that Rose (one of the main character) must have been the center here
and I did liked how strong and willing she was instead of being fragile and weak.
In the first book, I hardly noticed that the story was based on Rose, it was all
so well proportioned and as the book continued she never stoped to surprise me
with new characters and interesting insights.
It made me want to read her other books which was "Succubus Series".
And it was, if I may dare say, even better than VA in so many different ways. =)

I am now addicted to this genre of books and am sure I will read many more like it, but Vampire Academy will remain at the top of my list forever !!
I just can't wait till the 5th book realse next May.
