When You Gotta Know About Vampires... DK's Vampire Book,
This review is from: The Vampire Book (Hardcover)
My 9 year-old daughter has spent hours and hours with this book. My kids tend to like the DK books anyway, but this one just captivated her, with all the information that the DK team provides. The book is divided into Four major sections: What is a Vampire? Myths and Legends The Rise of the Vampire The Modern Myth And in 87 pages (not counting Glossary, Index, More to Explore...) it covers just about every aspect of vampires that you can think of. The book talks about origins, versions in different cultures, how to become one, how to kill one, how they've changed appearance over the centuries, how they are treated in literature, their 'evolution' in literature and the movies... up to and including references to the Twilight series. And while the information is interesting, what really makes this book is the presentation. The pages are gorgeous, graphic, thick and slick. There is not a single page with 'just' text. Instead each page explodes with color, has drawings or photos, multiple fonts, and all sorts of cool kid-friendly ways of presenting the information, and keeping kids attention. Written at the 4th Grade level (no exact AR month is available at this time), might I suggest this for your inquisitive child. [From whenever they can read at the 4th Grade level and up to middle-teen-ish.] (#1041) Pam T~ mom and reviewer at BookForKids-reviews

The Vampire Book by DK PublishingAges 9-12 DK Publishing (September 21, 2009) Caution: Well, it is about vampires!! Kiwi Magazine Review: There is a vampire craze right now and this book captures all of the lure of those blood-loving mythical creatures. Well, let's hope they're mythical because they are dangerous dudes. This book explores the `lore and allure' of Vampires, their history and their MO (modus operandi). Fortunately, this colorful, creepy book also provides some deterrents and a guide to destroy them if you are so inclined. From what I have been reading on blogs, the publisher should list the targeted age range : 9-12 plus all moms. Why should the kids have all of the fun?

For "kids" of all ages,
This review is from: The Vampire Book (Paperback)
I work at a library, and this book is just flying off the shelf. As soon as it comes back in, it gets checked out again. We have it cataloged as Young Adult, which means it's shelved with the adult books on the New Books shelf. From my observation, as many adults as young people are checking it out. As other reviewers said, it's just a beautiful book, and feels nice in the hands, too. If you have any interest in vampires at all, grab it now that it's a bargain price!

This book is awesome. It has information on the specific blood drinkers from every part of the world. Plus, it covers the time frame from the ancient times to contemporary times. A very worthwhile purchase for the vampire fan!
