From Booklist

Broken Heart, Oklahoma, is now a center for paranormal activity of the vampire kind after a PTA meeting was disrupted by a sick vampire who turned every parent into one of his own kind. Single mother Eva LeRoy is one of the new vampires, and her teenage daughter is adjusting. It helps that the whole town is vampire friendly, except for the renegade group that is trying to kill them. Eva is still testing her new powers when Lorcan, the vampire who transformed her, starts coming around. She knows that he was sick with the taint and has forgiven him, but he has yet to forgive himself. Eva is drawn to Lorcan and relies on him to help keep her spirits up as her idea of normalcy is destroyed and her daughter's boyfriend turns out to be a vampire hunter. Bardsley gives her readers a winning follow-up to I'm the Vampire, That's Why (2006) filled with humor, supernatural romance, and truly evil villains. Engelmann, Patty

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous series, wonderful story!, July 6, 2007

This is the second story, a follow up to I'm The Vampire, That's Why, which I also loved. This is a stand alone so you don't have to have read the first one (although I DO recommend it! ;).

Eva LeRoy is the town librarian and was turned into a vampire. She still runs the library and cares for her teenage daughter (who's funny too and falls for a vampire hunter). She's a single mom who hasn't had a man in her life in a long time.

Lorcan is a handsome vamp who's been healed from 'the taint' which cause him to kill Eva and 11 other members of the community and he's guilt ridden although still VERY sexy. <g>

Eva has the rare ability to communicate with animals and because of this there are some bad vamps after her. Lorcan has sworn to protect her while everyone (Patrick and Jessica from the last book included) tries to figure out what's going on.

I loved this story! It's hilarious, hip and touching too. Wonderful characters, wonderful story and highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Book!, July 5, 2007
I could not put this book down and finished it the day I got it. In this sequel to I'm the Vampire, That's Why, we get to know some of the other citizens of Broken Heart and to know them is to love them. This time, the story focuses on Eva, the town librarian. I absolutely loved the interaction between Eva and her teenage daughter who has adjusted amazingly well to having a mother who is a vampire. This story grabs hold of you and does not let go until you have turned the very last page. It is a fantastic ride and I cannot wait for the next Broken Heart adventure. Michele Bardsley rocks!!

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 stars, July 4, 2007
Just a couple of months ago, Eva Leroy was a normal mom/librarian. She's still a mother and a librarian, but outside of Broken Heart, she would not be considered normal. Thanks to a temporarily insane vampire, she and several other single parents are now vampires themselves and their town has been taken over as a haven for paranormal beings. Like all the others, Eva is adjusting, but she's still not happy when she's told she'll have to move because her house is in a blindspot. That becomes the least of her worries when hunters come looking for Nefertitti, an ancient, evil vampire who is controlling a pack of monsters. Even that little matter pales in comparison to the situation when Eva is infected with the Taint, the one disease a vampire can get, and faces dying slowly and painfully. She does not want to leave her daughter behind or to leave this world now that she's found love with Lorcan, the vampire who turned her. Somehow, the two incidents are related, though, and solving one might solve the other. She can hope, anyway.

**** Fun and suspense mix well in this latest entry in the rising paranormal mom-lit-romance blend genre. Broken Heart is an interesting place to visit; the way Ms. Beardsley has imagined building a society for vampires and lycanthropes is intriguingly inventive. I hope that there are many more stories there to tell. ****

You never have to cut the apron strings, baby. You just make em as long and as strong as your child needs. Then they have something to hold on to when they fall and they can follow those strings all the way home, if need be. The hardest thing to do is not hold on to the strings, to stop yourself from yanking on em to save your child from bad decisions. Your job as a mother is to be there with open arms. Its up to the one you raised to decide whether or not to step into your embrace. "e;
