Book Description

Six years ago federal agent Samantha Moon was the perfect wife and mother, your typical soccer mom with the minivan and suburban home. Then the unthinkable happens, an attack that changes her life forever. And forever is a very long time for a vampire.

Now in VAMPIRE DAWN, Samantha Moon tackles her most frightening case yet. Someone is leaving victims drained of blood, and all signs point to the killer not being a vampire. Meanwhile, Sam can't help but notice the changes coming over her son...fantastical changes that will leave her searching desperately for answers.

As Sam tracks down a ruthless killer, and as her own humanity slips further and further away, an ancient relic holds a secret that will rock her world...and open up a whole new one.

**Acclaim for the Novels of J.R. Rain**

"Gripping, adventurous, and romantic—J.R. Rain's The Lost Ark is a breakneck thriller that traces the thread of history from Biblical stories to current-day headlines. Be prepared to lose sleep!"
—JAMES ROLLINS, international bestselling author of The Devil Colony

"I enjoyed this immensely. The protagonist, Samantha Moon, is a female vampire with a husband and children. Those predate her condition; six years ago she was attacked by a vampire and rendered into one. Now she's trying to carry on with family and private eye business, and she's a feisty, skilled person, so is doing mostly okay. It is not a horror story; she buys animal blood to eat and doesn't generally prey on humans. But her husband has an increasing problem with her coldness—not of spirit, but of body. 'You sicken me and scare the hell out of me,' he tells her. 'And when I touch you it's all I can do to not gag.' She replies, 'Words every wife wants to hear.' I love this! What makes it special are her character and nature."
—PIERS ANTHONY, bestselling author of A Spell for Chameleon

"Dark Horse is one of the best books I've read in a long time! A great classic detective story with a modern twist. Unique and interesting characters (I think I'm half in love with Jim Knighthorse now!), a great plot that kept me guessing until the end, and some of the funniest lines I've read anywhere."
—GEMMA HALLIDAY, bestselling author of Spying in High Heels

"J.R. Rain delivers a blend of action and wit that always entertains. Quick with the one-liners, but his characters are fully fleshed out (even the undead ones) and you’ll come back again and again."
—SCOTT NICHOLSON, bestselling author of Liquid Fear

"Impossible to put down. J.R. Rain's Moon Dance is a fabulous urban fantasy."
—APRIL VINE, author of Intrigue In India

"Moon Dance is absolutely brilliant!"
—LISA TENZIN-DOLMA, author of Understanding the Planetary Myths

"J.R. Rain is the new modern master of vampires."
—H.T. NIGHT, #1 bestselling Kindle author of Vampire Love Story

"I love Jim Knighthorse! Please write faster, Mr. Rain!"
—ELAINE BABICH, #1 bestselling Kindle author of You Never Called Me Princess

"Moon Dance is a must read. If you like Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum, bounty hunter, be prepared to love J. R. Rain's Samantha Moon, vampire private investigator."
—EVE PALUDAN, author of Letters from David

"I totally loved The Body Departed. As someone who communicates with those who are either earthbound or have crossed over—your descriptions and interpretations of the dialogue and circumstances could not have been written more accurately."
—JULIE BELMONT, author of The Path to Personal Success and Freedom

"Powerful stuff!"
—AIDEN JAMES, bestselling author of The Vampires' Last Lover

"Jim Knighthorse is a throwback to classic detectives, which is probably why I love him so much. Funny, street-smart, and tough as nails. I love this series."
—SUMMER LEE, author of Angel Heart

“Is it possible to redefine two genres in one book? I don’t know, but J.R. Rain has left a lasting impression for the vampire and mystery genres.”
—P.J. DAY, author of King’s Blood

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed March 24, 2012

I enjoy J.R. Rain's stories. But it felt like this book was just an ad for other stories. It took only a couple of hours to read this. For the price, that feels like a rip off. I checked the download size of the file. It was about 1/2 to 2/3 of the size of other books I read. When I came to the end, I was only 2/3s of the way through the download. The rest was excerpts from other books. Then when you add in that he included the Christmas story, the actual Vampire Dawn had little content. I enjoyed the story, but again, felt ripped off. This should have been a $.99 download for what was there.

4.0 out of 5 stars J.R., I'm disappointed March 23, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
With such a long awaited arrival for Vampire Dawn, I snatched it up as soon as it was available. After waiting so long for it to come out and paying the full $3.99 for it, boy was I disappointed to see how short it was. I read it in just a couple of hours. Although it was nice of the author to include Christmas Moon, most of us dedicated fans have already paid for that and read it months ago, so I feel kinda shorted there too. So instead of 5 stars, I have to give 4 for this one. But I do love Samantha Moon and I do love JR's writing style, which probably makes the disappointment hurt more than it normally would. We need more!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed March 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I rarely have to put down a book because I simply can't deal with it any longer. I LOVED Rain's first 3 books, I really did. I found her premise to be unique and original. And, to be fair, the fourth was far from my favorite, but it was tolerable, I've read a lot worse. However, in the fifth book, it seems to me that Rain has gotten lazy. I don't want to include any spoilers, such that I have because I didn't finish the book. But I will say that if you want to write about Vampires, accept that usually includes some built in limitations for your characters. Or, if an author wishes to "push the envelope" and break away from the more mainstream constants, i.e, sunlight, silver, etc., by all means go for it, but use creativity. Using shortcuts like rare magical medallions that just keep cropping up handily for your main character, leave me feeling cheated. This series has so much promise, I'd highly recommend the earlier ones to readers, but my discontent began in the fourth series, and unfortunately, Rain did nothing in the fifth book to dispel those feelings.

Not as good as the previous books. Seemed slow. Not as suspenseful. I enjoyed it. But I didn't love it.
