4.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Finale.....A few dangling ends
I discovered Vampire Game a couple of years ago. I fell in love with Ishtar and Duzell, in their epic yet funny journey. I was incredibly sad to see it end, and at the same time curious, figuring out who the hell Phelios could be.
Well, it wasn't what I expected. I thought for sure it would be Ishtar. While I didn't want Darres and Ishtar to marry, I liked how...

Vampire Game is a phenominally good series with extraordinary character development, Judal's beautiful graphics, a nice dose of sensuality and a surprisingly solid plot .... and let's not forget the wit. Not "play it for laughs" over-the-top comedy but the kind of consistent and multi-layered dialogue that keeps you smiling even in the midst of the suspenseful and chaotic. It's FUN.

Which is why, after thoroughly enjoying all 14 of the previous books, I found the last one to be sadly lacking. Book 15 almost seems to have been written as a "gotta tie up all the loose ends" footnote to the prior books, so much so that it makes me wonder if the original authors wrote it or if they just wanted out. The plot unfolds with rapid-fire speed but lacks the depth and detail of the rest of the series. The characters' heroic deeds are whipped through at a rapid pace when - given proper treatment - it could easily have encompassed the span of three books instead of this one. In short, there's no fun, no wit, no passion and very little substance.

(A little spoiler here) My "Japanese heart" understands the inevitability of what happens (Well, almost. I think it's a given that everyone hoped for a dalliance between Duzell and Ishtar.) but I would be more accepting of it had I enjoyed this part of the journey a bit more. If you're a fan of the series, you'll be compelled to read this one ... but then you'll surely wish you hadn't.

As a side note: I give the rest of the series a solid 5 Star rating and recommend you give it a try - then you'll be a passionate fan, too!

Well, it wasn't what I expected. I thought for sure it would be Ishtar. While I didn't want Darres and Ishtar to marry, I liked how Judal brought Duzell and Yujinn back at the very end. Hopefully the next time Duzell and Ishtar are reincarnated, he will get a chance with her. As it is, the ending was very creative and while I didn't get to see Duzell and Ishtar together, I'm satisfied.
I would've liked seeing Illusaide's story wrapped up more satisfyingly, and learning more about Ishtar's parents would've been nice too. But you can't have everything, and this was a great series
