Book Description

April 2010
A new generation was awakened to the romantic lure of the vampire genre with Robert Pattinson's portrayal of Twilight’s soulful vampire, Edward Cullen. This book is for all those whose thirst remains unsated. A heady history of the silver screen’s undead dreamboats, this intoxicating study examines each of the mesmerizing performers who have taken on the role of leading vampire. From Buffy’s brooding flames David Boreanaz and James Marsters to Stephen Moyer, the pulse-quickening star of True Blood, every intriguing incarnation of Stoker’s monster is found here. Beginning with radical characters like Kate Beckinsale’s gun-wielding, PVC-clad action hero in Underworld and ending with delectably dark visions of legends Christopher Lee and Bela Lugosi, the book demonstrates precisely why the fascination with this genre — much like Cullen’s timeless love — will never die. Illustrated with more than 100 irresistible film stills, Vampire Lovers is essential reading for any well-informed fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Famous Monsters Reviews Vampire Lovers, October 21, 2010
This review is from: Vampire Lovers: Screen's Seductive Creatures of the Night (Paperback)
Vampire Lovers, now your probably thinking why in the world am I reviewing a book with a title like that. Well my friends titles can be deceiving.

In Gavin Baddeley's Vampire Lovers, he documents the history of the sexiest vampires in film and TV.

If you are a lover of the vampire genre this is a must for your collection. From the newest vampire phenomenons like Twilight and True Blood, to the classics like Dark Shadows, The Lost Boys, Christopher Lee and Bela Lugosi, Mr. Baddeley gives every vampire lover something to like in this book.

Mr. Baddeley did his homework, this is a meticulously researched and informative book. I learned more about Twilight in it's few short pages than I would have cared to. Not that, that is a bad thing, it gives me a different perspective on the newest sparkly vampire fad. Not that I like it, but I can understand it a little more.

Each screen vampire's section includes images and a brief history and overview of the role, along with the movie's tag line and other quotes. I found each and every article interesting and informative.

In the introduction Mr. Baddeley apologizes if your favorite screen vampire is not included. Though I agree with all of his selections, I think he should have included Jack Palance's performance as Dracula in Dan Curtis's made for TV movie, though he does mention it in the section on Bram Stoker's Dracula. I feel that Mr. Palance's performance was one of the most powerful and ranks up right up there with Lugosi, Lee and Oldman.

That being said, it in no way takes anything away from this wonderful book.

If you, like I are addicted to the undead creature of the night this is a must book for your collection.
