Book Description

November 21, 2008
Stock broker Brock Hart’s idea of fun was playing at the local gay nightclub every weekend with someone new. He imagined the Rules of Relationships didn’t apply to him, and his best friend thought his nonchalant attitude towards sex was crazy. Until one night his playboy image was put to the test. Spying Brock in a crowded club, vampire Daniel Wolf sets his sights on the handsome ‘man-eater’ businessman. Sparks literally fly between the two, and with one bite from the sexy vamp Brock is hooked. Never did Brock ever imagine falling for anyone, especially not a man from Sixteenth Century England! The only problem is, he’s a vampire. Can love conquer all? It will be a challenge, but one Brock is up for, in so many ways.

3.0 out of 5 stars aspects of Brock's life really paint a vivid picture, March 24, 2009
This review is from: The Vampire and the Man-eater (Paperback)
You learn your entire life to obey the rules, but as you get older, you learn that there are no rules. This is Brock Hart's belief, but he sure has a lot of rules and he is about to break almost every single one. With men at his fingertips wherever he goes, Brock rarely has to chase after anyone - that is until a beyond-gorgeous man with mesmerizing green eyes captivates his interest in the crowd at the club. He won't stop until he finds this mysterious man. Waking up the next morning from a coma-like sleep, he can remember making out with the guy and bringing him home, but he can't remember anything else.

Strange dreams of sex plague Brock as he continues with his life as usual, though he isn't sure why he has a nuisance of a cut on his neck. Encountering Daniel Wolf, the man from the club, outside his office is more than a bit of a surprise. He has been with lots of pretty men (lots being a bit of an understatement), but there is just something off the charts about Daniel, and he can't resist him. Waking hours later in his car after an erotic encounter with Daniel, he is furious at the lost time and the painful broken open cut on his throat. Feeling used for the first time in his life, he decides that he isn't going to let Daniel get to him and resolves to never see him again. But that resolution won't be easy to keep when this man-eater meets his match in a vampire.

At first, these characters came across a bit flat, but as the story wore on, their distinct emotions and personalities plus the fleshed out aspects of Brock's life really paint a vivid picture. Both of these characters come across rather naive, even if Brock is the king of anonymous sex and Dan is four-hundred-plus years old. I would have liked to have seen a smoother transition of their personalities as both work through their issues. The emotional dynamics of this story were interesting, though half the time I was sure that we would find out Dan was hypnotizing Brock because his emotions came across a bit unreal. I also didn't like the way things would be introduced into the story and plot but never expanded on. The plot of this story was rather weak, and there was material there to help draw the reader in that was never capitalized on. From the ruthless pursuit of pleasure with an almost detached feel to the more involved emotional encounters that definitely have their own magical twist, fans of M/M erotica will be intrigued by this story.

3.0 out of 5 stars Queer as Folk meets True Blood but not as good., October 23, 2009

Well, I finished it. That is something in itself. If I didn't love Queer as Folk and Brian Kenny I would not have read this book. This book is a complete rip on the Brian Kenny character, everything from the night club (A complete rip off of Babylon from the dancing go go boys to the bathroom antics.) to back room where they do you know what, to people at work pulling him into the bathroom. If you've watched the show, you'll feel like you half way know this Brock character.

Now Daniel, Daniel is to annoying to be a rip of anyone. He's a vampire with 40 million dollars leaving in the grave yard yet and doesn't seem to understand modern terms. Yet, he manages to dress and find his way to the gay hang out seen.

Then there is Brock's Brian Kenny rules of ''play'' (the nicest way to say it) with as many and as often as possible without falling into any form of relationship. Even his best friend Eli is a rip on Michael. Best friends since child hood, sort of longing for Brock and Brock saying he cares to much to ''play'' with him like that.

That said, this book is completely unbelievable. And Brock went from an ass to a mushy puppy I'm so in love I cry. He got to soft and it was a bit jarring on how soft he got once he fell in love.

It's not a bad book. I don't want to give that impression. But I think I only related to it because it felt like I was reading about Brian Kenny before he got soft and mushy and fell in love.
