Very good but not as good as I, VAMPIRE,
By
This review is from: The Vampire Papers (Mass Market Paperback)
When rereading I, VAMPIRE, I was taken with desire to read more of David Parker. I rushed to the bookstore even while mid-read of I, VAMPIRE and grabbed the only other two books by Michael Romkey on the shelf: VAMPIRE HUNTER and THE VAMPIRE PAPERS.THE VAMPIRE PAPERS was a little harder to follow than I, VAMPIRE, as it takes place in the First Person of more than one (ahem) Person, as well as in the third person. It is a simple adjustment, but an adjustment nonetheless. I have obviously missed a book somewhere along the way, as there are holes in the plots between I, VAMPIRE and THE VAMPIRE PAPERS. (Note to self: place amazon.com order after posting review.) I did enjoy this story, especially the VERY well-written lab report. If the plot wasn't so gruesome, I would forward this book along to my mother (who enjoys science but not graphic violence).

Wonderful book,
This review is from: The Vampire Papers (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was wonderfully written. It may be a little difficult to understand at times, but if you keep reading it will all get easier. Vampire Papers is a very detailed story about a killer and his hunter. If you don't like violence or sexual activity in your books then this is not for you. Other than that I think this book would please anyone.

This is another Michael Romkey book I couldn't put down. This book kept me company on a long plane trip. The story is mostly told in the 3rd person, which makes it a bit difficult to follow, but it's easy to get into it. Also, the book jumps between different time periods, so it's a bit confusing. Like in I, Vampire, the author weaves well-know history into the story. The author brings the main character, Thorne, to life and shows what a true deranged monster he really is. Although the book is fairly violent and gruesome, it only serves to enhance the story.I highly recommend it.

Not too too bad, but REALLY predictable,

This is one of the wierdest books I've ever read - it really grabbed my attention quick, but once I found out the plot, it got a little bit ludicrous - yet I couldn't put it down. The characters could definitely have used more fleshing out - the non-vampires, that is. And the story could have gone just as well w/o the graphic detail of the violence. While I read it quickly, I wouldn't suggest it to anyone else.

Confusing and not on my recommendation list,

The first 2/3 of the book isn't really a story. The forward tells that an authority, whoever that is we don't really find out, has put together the documents in order so that we can discover the story for ourselves. Some of these are diary entries and some are morgue examinations. This is an interesting and different way to give a story to readers however it was done rather well until the last 1/3 of the book where suddenly we have a ?short story? to complete the tale that totally destroys any purpose the previous pages had. Why not just write a normal story, or just give us the documents and diaries and let us explore it for ourselves. To me this was highly odd, disturbing, and confusing. The story was a bit on the gore side but if you like horror mystery type stories you are probably used to this. The end was a bit unsettling. Some things just didn't add up and left us questioning the author's sanity.
I've read other books by him and the others were quite good. However this book is indeed his worst and most possibly his greatest embarrassment. I would definitely NOT recommend this book to anyone. It's just too confusing and disappointing to bother with. I'm sure there will be something better from the bookstore shelf that you can choose from.

Ridiculous Plot Line,
By Lori Ann "bootbat" (Las Vegas, NV) - See all my reviews

So the premise of this book is that John Wilkes Booth was turned into a vampire. Somewhere along the way he went nuts and begins to worship neon light as God. This compels him to kill rather indiscriminately and then return to the South to get revenge on the families that had double crossed him when he was mortal. Really..I'm not making this up.
We have a clear antagonist but no clear antagonist. David Parker is a very weak character in this book until he turns to the Darkside over the last few pages. It's been quite awhile since I've read I, Vampire but I don't remember him being so worthless. In the end, if a character didn't wind up dead, there was no real closure to their story line. I had to force myself to finish reading it.

The Vampire Papers is an interesting book. It should be recommended
to teens or adults for the sexual and gore contents, but I thought it was a really good book. This book shows how well someone can put their imagination on paper. If you like gore this is the book for you. It doesn't have a lot of gore but tells of murders. I would recommened this book to people the age of 12 and higher. If you tend to like this book than read more of Michael Romkey's books. A list is here: I, Vampire-The Vampire Princess-The Vampire's Violin-The Vampire Virus-American Gothic-and many more.

This review is from: The Vampire Papers (Mass Market Paperback)
In the follow up to "I Vampire" Michael Romkey keeps to the use of fantasy, history, and what if's that make this book remarkable. Michael Romkey is a brilliant author who uses his books to make a person think about the possibility of certain people becoming vampires. If you enjoy a book that makes you think and enjoy horror with a little gruesome touch than this is a book for yo
