Book Description

The end of the world didn't come from a nuke bomb or natural disaster. Society's downfall came from ruthless and bloodthirsty vampires.

Survival became priority number one.

Preston Mitchell is fighting to survive after the loss of his family. He is coming of age in a world ruled by evil night creatures.

A chance encounter brings him to Darcy Rose and her family farm. She is also a teen living on her own. Because of her, Preston learns the true meaning of determination, love, and what it takes to be a man.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Vampire Themed Novel April 4, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I love all things vampire but I have to admit I was taken by surprise at how much I loved this book. Preston is a teenager when vampires step up and take the world away from the humans that ruined it. Unfortunately, the vampires ate too many humans and enslaved so many others that they were constantly on the hunt for any human that was not under their thrall. Preston loses his parents and has to run for survival. He meets up with a young woman and they come together to try to make a life for themselves. I thought the book was written in a simple and lovely way and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fast and refreshing July 19, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you judge the book by its cover, you’d figure Vampire Takeover was yet another:

Sparkly…Seductive…Flowing hair in calm air…Persecuted soul….Teenage-angst drivel.

Strider’s version of Vampires? Not even close; it’s refreshing and fun.

This is post-apocalyptic with humans pitted against humans and vamps. The primary characters of book one in the series are teens, but there is enough fire in their souls to transform them from fearful, to survivor, to warrior. The vamps are the apex predators; lacking compassion and always on the hunt - either for minions or meals.

Preston Mitchell loses his family at the onset and stumbles into Darcy, who is waiting for her family to return. The tale takes them through a few adventures (going to stop here so no spoilers) that test their resolve. Any YA (or adult) should enjoy this book if dystopian, apocalyptic and/or vampires are in your wheel house.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not another Teen Vampire Love Story February 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I enjoyed this book very much. It was a quick read; I finished it the same day I started it. The vampires are more like those in the movie 30 Days of Night rather than the ones in True Blood or Twilight. They're scary and they've taken over the human world. The survival mode of the charactrs is aken to that in shows like The Walking Dead. It's filled with adreneline, fear, and love. it's a high-impact story because everything is about survival, and the little things become way more important than they ever were. I would have liked it to be a little bit longer with some more time spent on the details of the vampires and the state of civilization under those circumstances, but I don't think those things were what the author was trying to focus on. At its base, it's a love story that makes you remember what the important things in life are and makes you thankful for what we have.

4.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't stop reading! January 30, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This story surprised me. I expected to be entertained but not to the point of not being able to stop reading this fast paced story about what it means to fall in love and to do anything for that person.

I only have two criticisms. The first, the story would read much more smoothly if it was either in past tense or present tense and not both. The second is that the story could use another proofread to correct the grammatical errors. These two things don't really take away too much of the story but fixing them would help.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good, smooth read with lots of action... July 16, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. The main characters were real to me and became engaging from the very start of the book. I particularly liked the way the author made the MC develop and mature through the length of the novel. It was a wonderful reading and one that I thought was well worth the money.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in the vampire genre and likes plenty of action.
