1.0 out of 5 stars This book references nothing
This book is supposed to be a reference guide--instead, it's a bunch of lurid nonsense. For instance, I read that the Greenland Adlet are "the hideous offspring of an unholy union of an Inuit woman and a demonically possessed red-haired dog." Hmm, sure--except that they're not hideous, the union was not unholy, and the dog was not demonically possessed. Then, the "litter...

Then, the "litter seemed to embody evil"--no, there is no evil in the original story whatsoever. "The woman, horrified by her offspring," puts them on rafts and sets them out to sea--no, she wasn't horrified, she was trying to save them from her father, who, she feared, might kill them (as the final chapter in a long cycle of revenge).

Why do I take offense? Because this is a really important myth for a people, and this nonsense is culturally denigrating. What you're reading is some dumb white male's fantasy of what others ought to think if only they were a bit more like him. Spend your money on something else, please.
