The list author says: "There are an awful lot of vampire/werewolf books out there, some in the horror genre, some in fantasy, some with romance as part of them. I like the fantasy/romance ones where the authors get the opportunity to examine themes of cross-cultural misunderstandings, racial suspicion (between preternatural people and regular humans) and violence as part of cultural behaviour patterns.
Of course lots of vampire/werewolf books are just a romantic story with someone who drinks blood or is furry, but if you look carefully there are some books out there which have far more to them. I've listed a few below, some of which are more lighthearted than others, but all of which I think will give you a really good read. Enjoy!"
"Third story in Black Dagger Brotherhood (Zsadist's story) and the best so far! This book has really deep subject matter about recovery from abuse and it's written very well."
"Another brilliant Sookie Stackhouse mystery - 5th in series (they're all worth reading). And what a woman Sookie is - she has SIX men romantically interested in her in this book!"
"Less vampires, more witch, but still great fun! First in a series so has some loose ends but some very interesting characters and world-building in this one."
"The third instalment in Rachel Morgan's story and the best - she's getting closer to the vampires and trying to keep away from her demon. A great read!"
"Fourth in the Rachel Morgan series. Jenks becomes over six foot tall, Ivy gets bloodlust, Werewolves get dangerous and even Nasty Nick reappears. Another fantastic ride!"
"Great fun vampire story. A Mediaeval monk turned vampire needs his fang fixed and so meets the dentist with a blood phobia... and starts an amusing chain of events."
"Great fun werewolf story - Kitty is a radio DJ whose secret comes out on air. Although fun and lighthearted there are some darker moments in this book with regard to pack dynamics."
"Very interesting vampire book set in Regency times. Definitely a cut above the usual "love at first bite" story!. Sadly the two follow-up books were less good."
