5.0 out of 5 stars Fang-tastic!
All you can say after finishing this book is "WHOA!". The Vampire Within is a wicked book from cover to cover. I loved it and I can't wait to pick up the next in the trilogy! There are small stories that play throughout that are all a part of the BIG picture.I liked the wicked humor here and there and the characters really pull you into the hell they are about to be apart...

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting
I liked it enough. I thought the story was interesting and it played out well enough for me to buy the second one. I'll let you know how that one goes.

All you can say after finishing this book is "WHOA!". The Vampire Within is a wicked book from cover to cover. I loved it and I can't wait to pick up the next in the trilogy! There are small stories that play throughout that are all a part of the BIG picture.I liked the wicked humor here and there and the characters really pull you into the hell they are about to be apart of. This book is not that gruesome but,Drew Silver writes in a way that make the reader use their own imagination to complete the whole picture. That can be the scariest part of all! You will not be disappointed in this vampire story. It is well written and flows nicely...kinda like the blood through your veins! One of my favorite ways to describe these characters is in the book itself: Emily say that the group was like a twisted version of the Justice League. How great is that? After reading this book, you will set a new standard for vampire books! I know I am hooked! This book will definitely be a keeper. Great story Drew!

Instantly you'll feel like you're watching this on the big screen and you'll get to know the characters so well, you'll think they're right there with you. Drew Silver has mastered the art of character development and this story will pull you right in to the middle of all the whirlwind events that take place. It's one of those books that when you finish, you'll count the days to the next release! Don't pass this one up!

4.0 out of 5 stars Reeled me in--eventually, March 11, 2009

This review is from: The Vampire Within: The Beginning (Paperback)
I have to admit that I put this book down 2 or 3 times with the thought of not finishing. The beginning is a bit slow. Perhaps my expectations were pretty high based on the reviews the series has gotten and I didn't feel the first hundred pages or so were working for me. I have to admit that I don't remember this happening to me before but after I put it down (for good, I thought) before finishing, I found myself continuing to think about it and wonder what was going to happen. Actually, I thought the first third was accomplishing little other than putting random people together in different situations. And it didn't help any that much of the action was transpiring in a football milieu--as I'm not a fan. In any event, I was having a difficult time discerning a common thread.

However, after about a hundred pages, it grabbed me by both sides of my shirt collar and slapped me twice. I was hopelessly addicted and, of course, could not devour it with sufficient speed. I now have the other two in the trilogy on my bedside table which will also, at some point in the not too distant future, be consumed as the bon bons I suspect they are.

It's true that vampire fiction is one of my great guilty pleasures. Well, at least good vampire fiction. And although I prefer such fiction with a little more sensuality and less brutality, this did not hinder me from embracing the fun. Tres recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars "The Vampire Within: The Beginning"--A TV Series or the Big Screen?, August 8, 2006

This review is from: The Vampire Within: The Beginning (Paperback)
"The Vampire Within: The Beginning" is a must read. It is a mystery and a thriller wrapped up in one. It was difficult to put the book down until the very last page. The story and excitement mounted with each turn of the page. I can't remember the last time I read a book this well written. Silver was able to write this book in a way that it will appeal to a large group of individuals--high school students, college students, mature adults, vampire fans and those who thought they weren't vampire fans. "The Vampire" will remain on my bookshelf for years to come and be read many more times. I'm looking forward to the release of "The Vampire Within: New Blood" in May 2007.

Silver has a way of pulling you into the story and painting a visual picture of the characters from the very first pages. As college students agree to an experiment drug that claims to cure ailments, produce better athletes and beauty they find out that the side effects of the drug may be a little more than they bargained for. "The Vampire Within: The Beginning" is written in such a way that you forget that you are reading a book and start visually seeing the characters play out the story. I would like to see "The Vampire" as a TV series or a movie.

Whether you consider yourself a vampire fan or not, you will not be disappointed in "The Vampire Within: The Beginning."

5.0 out of 5 stars Genetically engineered vampires, December 15, 2009

This review is from: The Vampire Within: The Beginning (Paperback)
When I opened this book and begin reading I was hooked. My first sitting I read half the book. It's the story of a scientist recruiting students to participate in an experiment taking place on college campus. The lure is this new enhancing drug can cure physical defaults such as asthma and acne. It can even improve talents for athletes. However, there are some nasty side effects. What the good scientist isn't telling is he's looking to make himself immortal as well as his wife and to do so he must keep testing on the students. All the while he's making himself a vampire army. Along the way you'll discover there are good vampires and bad vampires and they are warring. Once injected you basically have a decision, which side are you going to be on.

I enjoy that this book is easy fast reading. The chapters aren't terribly long and they are broken into smaller sections. Each of these sections will start a new scene with a different set of characters. I enjoy this very much. For the most part I had no trouble following each characters story. However, in the end a couple new characters introduced that I do not remember in the previous pages. I'm guessing the following books will explain their part and how they are related. They were just kind of plopped in there and it left wondering, did I forget about these guys earlier. Not necessarily, kind of puts a mystery to the story.

It's a good book, a keeper, and I'll be reading the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome book, looking for more, March 3, 2008
This review is from: The Vampire Within: The Beginning (Paperback)
I was stuck after 4 paragraphs, I LOVE this book. Looking forward to the ending Can't wait to see how it all turns out, I mean, you feel bad for the main characters knowing that their entire lives have changed. I was a little upset when Eric asked his brother to take the injection knowing what it would make him become and that the good Dr. might have some ulterior motives. I think the good in all of them will prevail. I can't wait for the next book. It is like watching a movie and having to pause it for months. Great Awesome read

4.0 out of 5 stars Character driven...just the way I like it!, June 29, 2007
This review is from: The Vampire Within: The Beginning (Paperback)
In Book One of this trilogy, Drew Silver has created a cast of characters that you won't forget, and because you care about what happens to them you won't want to leave them alone. These folks are in some serious trouble, scary stuff is going on and there's nowhere to hide. Drew definitely knows when to break the tension with some laughter and some love. I can't wait for the next book so I can learn more about my new friends (and hopefully that bad guy will get what coming to him).

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Been a Long Time..., October 20, 2006
By
This review is from: The Vampire Within: The Beginning (Paperback)
...since I've been scared by a book, but this one did the trick. The characters are realistic and the story is believable, which is no small task with a Vampire novel. And Drew Silver mixes the sinsiter with the everyday in such a way that you think 'this could really happen'. I found myself getting goose-bumps while reading this - the images are that realistic, but without being heavy-handed or expected. Silver brings a new twist to this genre that makes this tome appeal to a broad spectrum of readers who are sure to become devoted fans. So buy this book and rejoice! This is not the same old Anne Rice-ish type of story, with gothic this and gloomy that. If you love a good read, and enjoy being submerged in a novel, you'll love The Vampire Within.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Triumph!, December 30, 2006
This review is from: The Vampire Within: The Beginning (Paperback)
Drew Silver's The Vampire Within: The Beginning takes the reader on an edge-of-their-seat thrill ride. There are vibrant and memorable characters, well-crafted story lines, and heart-pounding suspense. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series and hope that this trilogy is turned into a movie or television series.

The synopsis - There is something sinister in the works at Triton Univeristy. A group of college students are about to be pushed to the limit when they must decide whether or not to fight the evil that is infecting their peers and spreading to the most powerful people in the city. With people vanishing, others feeling like their being stalked, and more displaying attributes that are frightening similar to the legendary vampire, the fate of one city and perhaps the world rests in the hands of a group of students who must decide whether to die as humans or embrace the darkness of their vampire within.

This is a must read! Don't pass this one up!
