5.0 out of 5 stars William will be back
I am very close to Raven Hart, and I can promise you that William will be back in the next book in the series. So don't despair!

1.0 out of 5 stars Spolier alert! If you are a devoted fan of this series you will be heartbroken...
Killing off one of the main characters is not a way to win friends and influence people...I will not continue reading the next book until you bring you know who back from the dead...i am not going to give it away for all you other folks who have not read this book yet, but I am done with this series!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read! (Spoilers), December 6, 2009

This book was a fun read, it was action packed and had a very good plot; However, i did think that killing off the main character left this book lacking. William was the most influential character and although there are little telltale signs that he will be back, i feel the decision to exclude him from this book altogether was a mistake. Despite my reservation, I would recommend this series and i cannot wait until the next book is released!

4.0 out of 5 stars good series, August 9, 2010
This review is from: The Vampire's Betrayal (Mass Market Paperback)
The Vampire's Betrayal is the fourth novel in the Savannah Vampire Chronicles by Raven Hart. The most power full vampire in Savannah, southern aristocrat William Cuyler Thorne has spent centuries satiating his lust and thirst while fiercely protecting the city's human population against real evil. He's got social cahet, voodoo magic, and the enviable savvy that comes with being undead. But now even William is uneasy.

An ancient prophecy of apocalyptic proportions is set to bring about a powerful Mayan Goddess who will destroy all vampires. Worse yet, William's side kick, the sexy NASCAR loving Jack McShane, is madly in love with Connie who a police detective and is about to morph into this doomsday vampire slayer. If that's not bad enough William's ex-lover, now twice dead and doubly nasty, is plotting to open the gates to the underworld and unleash all the demons on Savannah.

This series has it all. It has comedy (I love Jack), romance, betrayal, action, Voodoo magic and some surprises. It starts off where the last book left off and we bring back Jack and Connie from hell, only to bring back a hitchhiker in the process. They must try and avoid the Slayer and the impending doom that even all the shape shifter and other mystical creatures feel coming. This book keeps you going from the beginning with nonstop action and a few hot and sweaty love scenes.

William is a very power full vampire and has been through a lot in the first two books. He wants nothing more than to protect his family and his town but his weakness is women. He has been betrayed by three women in the last book. Now one of them is still out to have his heart on a stake. He is using every resource he has to find out more about the slayer and the upcoming disaster that he knows is coming. He is fearful he will be unable to stop it in time and his family and home will pay the price.

Jack is a vampire who loves NASCAR. He owns a garage where some very interesting characters hang out. Jack has been a vampire for while but he just recently is learning what it means to be a vampire. William turned jack in during the war because of how strong his love for humanity was. Jack was dying and still was trying to help his fellow soldiers first before himself. Since that was his greatest attribute, William never wanted Jack to learn all the nasty things there was to know about their race, but it seems now he is getting a crash course. So now not only has he got to protect himself from his love who is this prophesied slayer he must protect her from finding out what her destiny is and being activated into this immortal slayer. If that's not enough to worry about he also needs to help William keep the vampire council from bringing the already dead vampire demons back from hell to earth again.

I would recommend this book to all it is great the first book in the series was a bit slower but OMG each book just get more intense and bigger cliff hangers at the end. I will be reading the last book soon so I'll let you know how it goes

I do love the series and continue to do so, but I was so shocked and taken aback when one of the two main characters was killed off! I am so hooked that I will continue to read these books to see what develops next. This 4th book in the Savanah Vampire series has had some really nice twists added in this book that forshaddows trouble for Jack.

I absolutely love this series. I have friends at work hooked on this. It has comedy ( I love Jack) romance, betrayal, action, magic and some surprises. This is the first series that I have read where the main character is killed off. It does give Jack a chance to come into his own and Werm a chance to grow up and begin to realize his potential. The book leads you believe that William is not really dead and I am very interested in how the author plans to bring him back. I have to admit though it took me a bit to get used to how the book is written in first person. A few times I had to go back because I missed the change in who was "talking". I anxiously await the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent horror thriller, May 6, 2008

This review is from: The Vampire's Betrayal (Mass Market Paperback)
Connie Jones with the help of voodoo priest Melaphia went to the Underworld to see her daughter to insure her offspring is happy and to enact revenge on her former husband who killed their child before committing suicide. Vampire Jack follows her, but because he is damned he cannot go to her; he is permitted by Heaven to see her accept her destiny as a Slayer and receive a sword. When she finds the twin blade on earth, her transformation will be complete.

Jack's sire William has returned from Europe with Melaphia's daughter who was kidnapped by his wife Diane and his lover Eleanor who wanted her for her magical blood. Melaphia is waiting for Jack to get out of the Underworld, but she wants Connie to remain behind; if Connie comes topside she will kill the vampires she calls friends as she transforms into a Slayer. Jack gets out and brings Connie with him. After brainstorming with the group of vampires in the New World re this conundrum, they agree that Jack will have to kill Connie, the woman he loves before she eradicates him and his family.

Raven Hart writes horror thrillers with plenty of heart so that her audience will feel the issue facing the New World vampires who are pacifists differing from their human blood thirsty sires who want to rule the planet as befitting in their mind the top rung of the food chain. The children who escaped them want to live happy lives and are willing to deal with their creators to achieve their goal. William does his best to be a benevolent dictator but something ugly is coming to force him into making difficult choices as the undead lifestyle is about to be jeopardized with this new fanatical Slayer who was once a friend.
