Book Description

Some say that legends are born. Others say they are made. What if they are both right?

No one has a choice to be born but what if you had one?
Being abnormally normal, Charlie was abruptly thrown into a world she didn’t believe existed. A world especially created, through time, just for her arrival with her unique blood. A heart that knew nothing but pain is unexpectedly filled by a mysterious man who endured for over a thousand years just to be with her.
Living as a human was hard enough but trying to fit into a world where her survival could mean the downfall of her race is much harder than she ever had to deal with. Coping with twists and turns, secrets and finding her courage to not only keep herself alive but those of her new family is her personal conquest.

This is her story. This is her legend.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sorry to say it... December 8, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've read many, many, many paranormal romance books and this to me was a waste of time. I thought the idea of an older woman with a less than perfect figure was a great idea, and some of the ideas the author had were also very well done. As for the "emotional roller coaster" that someone else mentioned, I found it very grating on my nerves.
At every drop of a hat the heroine, Charlie, was crying, fainting, outraged or blowing things WAY out of proportion. I only kept going because I thought, "Maybe now she'll pull up her big girl panties!" I can't even remember how many times she fainted. This isn't "heroine" material to me. I don't expect her to be like every woman in other stories, but the crying and fainting got old very quickly.
The idea behind the story and plot were indeed clever (dragons, vampires, and knights) but it took forever to find out anything and for the action to start. The title of the next book sounds interesting but I was so bored and annoyed with Charlie and her never-ending emotions that I wont even bother with the next ones, even if they're free.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vampires and Chocolate Eisald and the Dark Twins November 13, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Firstly I would like to point out that this is my first book review ever. Secondly I have called Karinn my friend for over 40 years giving me a unique insight into Karinns past, unlike others.
I can see the way she has woven parts of herself into her characters story. So far I have read books 1& 2 and part of 3.
Yes I could slap Charlie senseless but I am sure a lot of women could identify with the emotional rollercoaster she often finds herself on and haven't got the strength to talk about , analyze or escape.
Mostly I would like to thank Karinn for having developed her amazing imagination and going that step further to put pen to paper and get published!
We had some fantastic and dramatic childhood memories together but I love how reading takes me to places I wouldn't ordinarily go; who wouldn't like to soar on a Dragonfriend? Karinns writing gives me that escape and I will continue to follow Charlies adventures wherever they go.

3.0 out of 5 stars Potential ... but Not there yet October 4, 2011

I hate to be a naysayer; however, I also hate for people to buy a book with super ratings that just isn't quite super.

Pros:
Author had a cute idea. The lead characters are likable. There is some decent dialogue. It only costs $.99. I won't go further since other reviews tell many of the positives.

Cons:
Typos, Typos, Typos. Hopefully the book was edited much better. For example, everywhere the word "hung" should be was changed to "Hong". For example, Charlie's clothes were "Hong in her closet", Charlie was "Hongry", etc. I never found where "Hong" should have been used, although I was skimming a lot. There were many more errors that should be corrected and hopefully were before the printed edition.

Many instances where Charlie's blood should have been an issue for her allies, but wasn't.

Charlie's skill set turned out to be really crazy unbelievable. Without giving away the plot, I will just say a hundred???? Really???

I also had a really hard time reading it because of the perspective it was written from - first person but just weird.

When authors like Kerrelyn Sparks writes a book like "Sexiest Vampire Alive" which was definitely a 4.5/5 star book (well worth the money) to rate this book at the same level is just terribly unjust.

What a fantastic read, I could not put this book down!! You get drawn into this world of Dragons, Vampires and Knights that has you on the edge of your seat. Loved that Charlie went through all these emotions and came out the other side a stronger and happier woman. With strong friendships being made and love mixed in that make you laugh, cry and blush at times :) I would recommend this book 100%

Well what can I say, Hooked already!!! The first book of a fabulous series Well worth the read in my opinion. I was drawn into Charlies world, I laughed with her and I cried with her, I couldn't put the book down until it was finished. I was late getting into this series but was told about them and how good they were. I was NOT disappointed. It is so different from all the other vampire series i have read which is good. I would recommend these to anyone.

More About the Author

Miss Martel was born in Manitoba, Canada, to a mixed heritage of Ojibway and French parents. Her parents moved the family to Ontario when she was eleven and she remains there to this day. In the small town of Cambridge, Ontario, she decided to sit down and write a book when the ideas in her head would not leave her alone. Forty-four hours later, she had the first draft of the first book of her Vampires and Chocolate series.

The genre of vampires has never been told like this before. Miss Martel has shown us what a real vampire is. They are not made of marble nor do they glow or sparkle. They are just like the rest of us, which makes them that much more interesting and deadly. They could be in your neighbourhood and you would never know.
Her take on the world and where it will go leaves us to question our own mortality, and that of the planet. She touches on everyday life questions and how the average person would deal with it, relating to most who have read the series so far. Hate it or love it, the reader will find something about themselves in the books. They can relate to Charlie, the lead character, because unlike most other vampire themed books, she is an average woman and average women can see themselves in her place.

Her series is world-wide in popularity. There are NO paperback versions available of book 1 anymore; they are on Amazon and KOBO at the moment. Any comments made about any of her books regarding spelling errors have been fixed for each book. She takes everything reviewers say and tries to fix annoying things she may have overlooked. She wants to make sure that all of her fans have a great read!

She started writing in 2010 from a need by women to have a more realistic vampire series.

Miss Martel has started venturing into the YA market and is beginning to release books for her young fans too. "I wanted to get some books out in the market that combine being a preteen and growing up in a world surrounded by ghosts and other things that go bump in the night. I love putting the super natural spin on everyday lives to see how they react."

Feel free to contact her. She has made many new friends by her devote fans contacting her, and some have even gotten to be a character in her books.
