I haven't been so lost within a book like this in such a long time. I was extremely pleased with how vivid the book was, to the very point that I was wishing it to be true. The Vampire's Last Lover kept me in a world of dark romance with twists and turns leaving my imagination thirsting for more. I'm so happy to have come across this new series and summer of 2011 can not get here soon enough for the second book! Better than the vampire stories I have come across including Twilight, True Blood and The Vampire Diaries combined! As a female reader Aiden James was able to create a story that was romantic, thrilling, beautiful and scary all in one, thanks for sparking a fire again in me to dive and submerge into reading again.

The Vampires` Last Lover sucked me into my own mini vacation leaving me waiting & anticipating for the next book in the series! I was on my way to the office today and thinking about the book... So, I thought this book was one I should definitely write a review on. If the rest of the books in this series are as good as this one, I would love to buy a Leather bound edition of the complete collection! Thanks for the mini vacation!!!Caitlin L.

And I've read a few. Aiden James is a smooth and stylish writer and The Vampires' Last Lover is proof that we are watching a master at work. You will love his heroin and his world of vampires.--J.R. Rain

The fertile imagination of Aiden James definitely knows what today's readers want to see in their stories.,

The night Txema (pronounced "Chema") Ybarra turned nineteen, her life changes forever. Until then, Txema's plans had been to finish graduating from the University of Tennessee and becoming a veterinarian. But as Txema finishes preparing to go out with her boyfriend, Peter Worley, to celebrate, a vampire appears with warning of evil creatures lurking just outside her dorm. The vampire, Garvan de Sang, is one of five emissaries who have crossed the Atlantic to meet and protect Txema. Of course, Txema does not fully believe it, but all too soon the truth is revealed. Students begin dying. But it is Txema the creatures are seeking.Upon Txema's neck is a birthmark resembling twin tears. It is a sign of an ancient royal bloodline which carries a gift that a breed of vampires needs to survive, and which allows them to govern the less-fortunate of their kind. Without Txema's bloodline, these vampires would lose control over their primal urges. Should that happen, the vampires would gorge themselves until the human race became extinct. One of the vampire emissaries, Chanson, is a female distantly related to Txema. Hundreds of years ago, Chanson had been in the same position in which Txema is now. Another vampire, Ralu Izcacus, considers himself to be the king of the lesser beings. (Think of menacing and deformed vampires and cruel human chupacabras which consider humans to be their playthings and/or chattel.) It is Ralu that has creatures hunting the campus for Txema. Ralu would enjoy seeing Txema's bloodline end. Thus begins a cat and mouse game between immortals that will eventually decide the fate of humanity. **** FOUR STARS! This story is written in the First Person with Txema as the main focus. The very first page has Txema explaining that she is writing down the last ten days of her life for possible future readers. Fortunately, this means that I see events through Txema's eyes. As Txema learns and understands what is happening, so do I. Unfortunately, this also means that whenever Txema becomes unconscious, I am unable to witness dramatic events unfolding or the clash of exciting battles. In my opinion, hearing about battles (and/or the outcomes) narrated after the fact is not nearly as satisfying. As with the previous titles I have read by this author, I found the author's writing style to be silky smooth and the main plot line to be extremely creative. The fertile imagination of Aiden James definitely knows what today's readers want to see in their stories. **** Reviewed by Detra Fitch of Huntress Reviews.

From the moment I started reading "The Vampires' Last Lover" I was enchanted by the characters, imagery, and fast-paced plot. I don't want to give away too much here, since the good reviews cover a lot already. Just know that if , like me, you download this book you won't regret it! It already is one of my personal favorites--Mr. James never ceases to amaze and entertain me!!

Smitten and bitten! A must read in a compelling vampire series!,
By Eve Paludan (Los Angeles, CA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Vampires' Last Lover (Dying of the Dark #1) (Kindle Edition)
I am smitten and bitten! The Vampire's Last Lover is just the first novel of this captivating series. I was drawn in by the well-developed characters and held captive by the amazing twists and turns of the plot, which unfolded at breakneck speed and with panache and aplomb. The tale's elements of an endangered bloodline, good vampires versus bad vampires, and the heroine's tenacity to overcome dangerous paranormal obstacles are just the beginning of why I enjoyed this compelling read -- I remain haunted to discover what will happen next in this series. From slayings on a college campus near the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee to a secret ceremony in a turreted castle in the Pyrenees, the heroine is propelled through The Vampire's Last Lover with enough excitement to make your own blood race! Author Aiden James has created a must-read for vampire novel lovers who enjoy a well-crafted tale of paranormal destiny and good versus evil.

I needed a book to "save me" from vampires that are vegetarian! Aiden James has restored my faith in vampire books with this compelling read. The action is fast, the characters are well developed, and the plot twists and turns kept me entranced. This is a great read and I can't wait to read the sequel. Note: I borrowed this book so it doesn't show as me actually purchasing it. When this book comes out in paperback next month on Amazon I will be buying my own copy :-) It is worth having in my library!!!

I read this book a while ago, but recently re-read it. When I first started reading it, I realized I had read it before, but decided to continue reading anyway. I am so glad I did. I had forgotten how much I had enjoyed the book. The author has a vivid writing style that captures the imagination and sustains the suspense throughout the entire book. This book puts a different slant on the usual vampire genre, which I enjoyed. I can't wait to read the follow-up.
