CARPENTER DOES IT AGAIN,

This review is from: Vampires: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
This is one of the best soundtracks EVER. I kid you not. The grunge/roadhouse-blues music that fills this CD will appeal to all Carpenter fans and any Hells Angels bikers. You really feel like a trucker or a biker listening to this music. And even more-so if you like it. There are some splendid guitar riffs and even some erotic mood-music (Track 6). The final track on this CD is worth the price alone. It rocks big time. And so does Carpenter. I love it.

One Amazing Soundtrack,
By Rob James (Stratford, CT USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Vampires: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
This has to be one of the best soundtracks that I have ever listened to. John Carpenter did an excellent job lending his musical skills to form the Texas Toad Lickers that perform on the album. This album combines acoustic guitars, electric guitars, steel pedal guitars, and synthesizers. Add some fantastic percussion and you've got one great album. Carpenter described the movie as a western, in which he is right, and you can tell by listening to the music. Alot of the songs are ballads, such as 'New Mexico', 'Farewell Slayer', and 'Santiago'. These songs, along with several others, use a combo of acoustic guitars and synthesizers. Others, such as 'Slayers', 'Motel Sex', and 'Stake And Burn', are a little heavier, using that bluesy hard rock style. The only disappointment that you will find on this album is that the songs are a little short, but the songs seem to last more than 46 minutes. I highly recommend this album, and if you are looking for something along the lines, I suggest the soundtrack to 'Unforgiven', which has the feel of 'Vampires' slow tunes.

I went and bought the soundtrack as soon as I saw this movie and even though that was something like three years ago, the cd still hasn't lost its luster. I'm not really big on soundtracks but there's a lot to love here and LOTS of variety. The opening "Teaser" sets the mood for a good time and from there the cd ranges from fun and rollicking barroom music, to the more synth-oriented, score stuff. There's some moody pedal steel here and there and "Santiago" is a standout as one of my favorites. It's very atmospheric and did a lot for that scene in the movie. If you haven't seen the movie, you may want to check into that before you buy the album, although I'm sure that this would sound good even if you haven't seen it.
