5.0 out of 5 stars CARPENTER DOES IT AGAIN
This is one of the best soundtracks EVER. I kid you not. The grunge/roadhouse-blues music that fills this CD will appeal to all Carpenter fans and any Hells Angels bikers. You really feel like a trucker or a biker listening to this music. And even more-so if you like it. There are some splendid guitar riffs and even some erotic mood-music (Track 6). 5.0 out of 5 stars One Amazing Soundtrack, November 1, 2000

Rob James (Stratford, CT USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Vampires: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
This has to be one of the best soundtracks that I have ever listened to. John Carpenter did an excellent job lending his musical skills to form the Texas Toad Lickers that perform on the album. This album combines acoustic guitars, electric guitars, steel pedal guitars, and synthesizers. Add some fantastic percussion and you've got one great album. Carpenter described the movie as a western, in which he is right, and you can tell by listening to the music. Alot of the songs are ballads, such as 'New Mexico', 'Farewell Slayer', and 'Santiago'. These songs, along with several others, use a combo of acoustic guitars and synthesizers. Others, such as 'Slayers', 'Motel Sex', and 'Stake And Burn', are a little heavier, using that bluesy hard rock style. The only disappointment that you will find on this album is that the songs are a little short, but the songs seem to last more than 46 minutes. I highly recommend this album, and if you are looking for something along the lines, I suggest the soundtrack to 'Unforgiven', which has the feel of 'Vampires' slow tunes.

I went and bought the soundtrack as soon as I saw this movie and even though that was something like three years ago, the cd still hasn't lost its luster. I'm not really big on soundtracks but there's a lot to love here and LOTS of variety. The opening "Teaser" sets the mood for a good time and from there the cd ranges from fun and rollicking barroom music, to the more synth-oriented, score stuff. There's some moody pedal steel here and there and "Santiago" is a standout as one of my favorites. It's very atmospheric and did a lot for that scene in the movie. If you haven't seen the movie, you may want to check into that before you buy the album, although I'm sure that this would sound good even if you haven't seen it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good soundtrack but was missing some tunes, August 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Vampires: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
This was an over all good soundtrack mixing eerie tunes with guitar. But the following music is missing: The music used in the beginning when you see all the Nesferatu gettin fried as there yanked out of the farmhouse and the threatening notes being played (perhaps by a synthesizer) after Montoya is bitten by Katrina and you see him get out of the car and fire his gun and put it to his neck to stop the bleeding. I thing those tunes were replaced with similar ones which were pretty good, but to me its just not the same. If anyone can tell me any information, please tell me. Overall it was still a good soundtrack. Great for vampire hunters everywhere. For even cooler music, sink your teath into the blade soundtracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER POINT FOR CARPENTER, March 2, 2001

This review is from: Vampires: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
This selection has a spooky-western feeling to it. It's perfect for the movie and it is perfect listening to.

Except for tracks #1 & 5 which are fast paced, this one is good for a good thrill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Soundtrack, June 15, 2011

Just the right kind of badass, Western-tinged bar-brawl blues-rock (I like hyphens here, so what?) coupled with some moody atmospherics. Simply an excellent soundtrack -- one that works just as well to rock out to.

5.0 out of 5 stars A career highlight for John Carpenter, April 30, 2000
By
This review is from: Vampires: Music From The Motion Picture (Audio CD)
This music ROCKS! I cannot get tired of listening to it. Padre's Wood and Cruel Highway are the best but I could have done without Teaser and Motel Sex, they are/were kind of dull. Still this music is distinctive Carpenter and features some of his best keyboard work (not to mention those mean guitar riffs) since Escape from New York. Get it!

This is some of John Carpenters best stuff. I loved the movie and just had to get the soundtrack. Ever since I got it I haven't turned it off and I recommend it to anyone who likes to listen to chilling instrumental music. My favorite song is "Slayers" which uses great guitar to set an eerie mood.
