3.0 out of 5 stars Too many loose ends
Raven Hart has created some magnificent characters and at times, an intriguing story. For both these reasons I've read the entire series and will likely read the next installment. With that said, I was left frustrated at the number of loose ends in both The Vampire's Secret and The Vampire's Revenge. Neither of these books in the series stands on their own and instead...

This is one of the best series i have read in a long time. It kept me guessing, laughing, and even mourning. I hope there will be another one to complete the series but I have been to the authors website myself and discovered that her publisher [...] has decided not to continue their contract with her for the next book. I have emailed them and also am encouraging other fans to do the same. Ballantine books is apart of Random House. I will not be buying another book published by them until they at least give her one more book to finish the series. I hope for more than that. I know im just one small voice among millions but have to start somewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, Great Series, January 29, 2009
By
This review is from: The Vampire's Revenge (Mass Market Paperback)
The Vampire's Revenge is the action packed fifth installment in the Savannah Vampire series and it won't let fans down. Jack McShane hits the ground running and doesn't stop. He can't. The civilians of his fine city are depending on him.

Raven Hart was right when she wrote in a recent interview, "Poor Jack has to run from one crisis to another, and although I adore him, I also love to torture him."

And torture him she does, as he's forced to face scheming old world vampires, their growing elemental powers, fight double-deads that escaped from hell and summon all of his McShane charm to convince the dhampir vampire slayer not to stake him.

Jack is kept so busy he rarely gets coffin time. But maybe it's best that he keep busy saving the civies from things that go bump in the night. Then he doesn't have to face what's breaking his heart--changes affecting everyone he's ever loved. Who said vampires don't have feelings?

I loved this book! The action kept me on my toes and the plot's interesting twists and turns kept me guessing. It's laugh out loud funny. The image of Jack and Werm comparing the size of their fangs at the bar is priceless. Fun things are happening with the irregulars. And always with the cliffhangers! AHHH!!

A couple of funny lines:

"I can have fun shooting rats at the dump." ~ Jack McShane

"What am I, a surgeon? A really bad, like, steak knife surgeon?" ~ Connie Jones

I could have written more but I'd end up writing the whole book! Raven Hart's humor takes you from giggles to guffaws! I love it! Fun, fun series!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm extremely concerned!, June 22, 2010
By
This review is from: The Vampire's Revenge (Mass Market Paperback)
With all the previous novels she wrote, at the end, she gives us a bit of a preview of the NEXT installment.

On this novel, the 5th in the series, there was no preview - and oh indeed, this DEMANDS more, it can NOT end the way it did - there MUST be more.

I see no mention of forthcoming books.

The entire series - NEVER a dull moment - not too much mush or detailed love scenes to bore the reader to tears. It's just right.

MORE. MORE. MORE. There must be more books coming.

SPOILER ALERT BELOW

I did not like what William did regarding Eleanor - all for his POS wife Diana and his POS son Wil (Raven should have not named the son the same name as the star of the series - it can get confusing). I agree with Eleanor in book 4 - it's William's fault - all of it. So when he got snuffed, I was not too sad about it. He was a ROYAL screw up in too many ways - not finishing things with bad guys and obsessing on POS wife when he had a good soul mate in Eleanor.

5.0 out of 5 stars VAmpire's Revenge, June 21, 2010
This review is from: The Vampire's Revenge (Mass Market Paperback)
Unlike many of the other reviewers, I am not disappointed with the lack of romance in this series. I have atleast a dozen different series that I try to keep up with, several are truely paramormal/romances. The plots and characters of the romance genre start to blend together. The relationship between the characters in the Savannah Vampire Chonicles, reminds me of a lighter hearted version of Anne Rice's Vampire Chonicles. I never once considered this to be a romance series and I'm truely hoping that when Raven Hart is able to continue this series it does not turn into one.

There are some romantic(I use the term loosely) couplings within the five book series, but not overwhelming to the plot. One author I have enjoyed reading in the past has got to the point of every other chapter there's a 20-30 page long love scene. I have found myself flipping thru til I get to the oh yes ohh yes, so I can move on in the characters story. If you are looking for a simpering romance this is not the book or series for you. If you want a good page turning vampire story I think you will enjoy it as much as I have.

The only true disappointment I have with this book and series is that Vampire's Revenge does leave a several cliffhangers. Last that I had checked Ms. Hart does not have a contract with a publisher to finish the series. There is far too much story to be left untold. I am hoping that some publisher will pick up the series, so we can find out how jack save his hide along with everyone elses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this Series; Love this Book!, October 14, 2009

This review is from: The Vampire's Revenge (Mass Market Paperback)
Looking for a good paranormal, vampire book series to read after Twilight and the Sookie Stackhouse series, the Savannah Vampire series by Raven Hart was recommended to me, and I wasn't let down.

I have enjoyed reading this entire series, and I think that each book in it has been fantastic. It took me a little while to get used to the alternating POVs while reading the first book, but I got used to it fairly quickly and found that I really enjoyed reading the story from two characters with two very different personalities and mindsets.

Throughout the series, Hart takes the reader through many twists and turns, most of which were HIGHLY unexpected, and has led the story to an excellent, thickening plot, leaving the reader wanting more. Without giving any spoilers, let me just say that I love Jack and feel for him immensely, especially in this 5th installment. Jack is a poor, tortured soul, and even in the face of adversity and despair, he never gives up. He continues to fight the good fight, keeping his spirits up and continuing with his highly humorous and sarcastic wit and bantor.

While the resolution with the double dead seemed to come fairly quickly (and seemingly a little too easily), there were many more events to keep this book a page-turner.

I cannot wait to continue reading this series to see what Hart has in store for Jack next. It can't come quick enough!!

5.0 out of 5 stars fabulous horror thriller, January 29, 2009

This review is from: The Vampire's Revenge (Mass Market Paperback)
It has been only two weeks but Jack McShea does not have the time to mourn his sire William, the vampire who created him over a hundred and fifty years ago. The woman he loves Connie Jones has been magically transformed into a vampire slayer; in her trance she is no longer able to delineate between good and evil vamps. Connie is unaware that she is carrying Jack's child and that he loves her enough to allow her to be with a shapeshifter who also loves her.

When Connie awakens from the trance, her feelings for Jack remains strong but so does her commitment to Seth. She and Jack reunite to send the double dead vampires back to the hell they escaped from Jack must deal with Diana, and prevent William's grandfather and his father from destroying Savannah. He must also make long turn plans to save the New World from the Old World vamps who see the human race as bugs

Beleaguered and bewildered while coping with traumas and grief, Jack realizes how much he depended on William, but with no time to spare must learn to rely on himself for the first time in his undead life or lose everyone he loves like he did his mentor. The fabulous fast-paced story line is sort of a coming of age tale if a century and half plus individual can be such. Raven Hart is a fabulous horror writer on a par with Karen Koehler as fans who have read her exhilarating Vampire sag already know. THE VAMPIRE'S REVENGE is an excellent and brilliantly executed horror thriller.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too many loose ends, October 15, 2009
This review is from: The Vampire's Revenge (Mass Market Paperback)
Raven Hart has created some magnificent characters and at times, an intriguing story. For both these reasons I've read the entire series and will likely read the next installment. With that said, I was left frustrated at the number of loose ends in both The Vampire's Secret and The Vampire's Revenge. Neither of these books in the series stands on their own and instead seems to end in the middle of the story. Leaving a reader wanting more is one thing, ending a book with more questions than answers is completely unfulfilling and just plain irritating.
The introduction of the Fey island, the weakly plotted last attack on Jack, stopping mid-bite while turning Rennie and at the same time introducing yet another new character in the last pages of "Revenge" left me wondering where the remaining chapters were. It was as if Ms. Hart just got tired of writing and decided to take a vacation before completing this latest work.
Killing off William was a mistake and one I hope is somehow rectified in the next book. Jack's a fantastic character but with all his troubles I'm not sure he can hold the series all by himself. This is furthered due to the departure of Mel, Renee, Deylaud and Reyha. The lack of romance is also getting frustrating considering it's a romance novel. It's time for something go right for Jack. His current undead "life" is so depressing that it's catching and I for one read a romance novel to feel the romance and ultimately a happy ending, not to be frustrated and down when I finish the last page.
Come on Ms. Hart... finish this series with some true romance and a happy ending. Otherwise just stake me and put me out of my misery!

4.0 out of 5 stars Left Me Wanting More!, May 24, 2010

I have thoroughly enjoyed Raven Hart's Savannah Vampire series and have flown through each book. This one however, left me with so many unanswered questions. Poor Jack seemed to have so many different horrible things happening to his motley group of friends and others that he considered family. Personally, I don't know how much more upheavel he could have taken in his undead-life before he would be spiking blood with Prozac rather than scotch. I really did not like the way the book ended. It seemed as though Raven lost her focus at the end. I would have enjoyed a bit of resolution to many of the open ended plot lines. I am really hoping that she publishes a new book in the series SOON so that I can put closure to these characters that I have come to love.

I was looking for a new series when I found this one. It sounded interesting enough to download the 1 book. I could not put it down! I've read all 5 books of this series within a week, and I can't wait for book 6. This is the first book I've ever wanted to write a review on. The fact that the author Raven Hart hasn't been given a release date for book 6 from her publisher is crazy! I hope there are enough devoted readers out there for this series that will make the publisher hurry up with a release date!

I loved this book and it was as exciting as the first four in the series. The characters are vivid and exciting to follow. The story is original and different from the usual paranormal romances. I could not stop reading until I finished this book and the series. This story is full of action, humor and romance. It is so much better than the True Blood series. I highly recommend to all.
