Well, this is a deck about vampires. I have to say bloodtaking, because I want to say "breathtaking", but vampires don't take your breath. The illustrations in this deck are absolutely stunning, appearing to be photographs of the scenes. The scenes are dark and Gothic. Of cause there is blood shown in several of the scenes, but maybe only 1 or 2 cards might appear to be gory to some. Very few actual people are pictured; what appears to be humans, in the vast majority of cards, are actually vampires. The younger men and women pictured are attractive and sexually alluring. The older vampires shown are not as attractive as the younger ones, but can also be sexually alluring. The authors of this set present the idea that vampires are created creatures, who were once human, are no longer so, but have retained some aspects of their humanity, and there is a constant struggle between the monstrous and human sides of their existence, with no happy conclusion. Besides vampires, many of the cards picture other creatures of the night. I won't speak further about the illustrations, because I don't want to affect your initial viewing of these cards, but on several of the cards you will be surprised at what is pictured; a bit different than what is pictured in most tarot decks. The set contains a 158 page, soft covered book. It opens with a discussion of the relationship between vampire lore and ourselves, both as individuals and as members of society. Next is a brief, but good discussion, of the structure of a tarot deck. This is followed by a discussion of each of the cards of the deck. There is a full color picture of each of the cards, which is unusual in a companion book. There are core aspect words given for each card, which I found very helpful for interpreting cards in this deck, as well as those in other decks. The Majors are discussed using key words, traditional meaning, vampire story, dark approach, human approach, light approach, and divinatory meaning. The Minors lack key words and traditional meaning in their discussions. The discussion of the cards is followed by section on how to perform a reading of the cards, followed by examples of spreads. The book closes with a section on how to throw a vampire party; this is something I will pass upon. For lovers of vampire and Gothic themed tarot decks, this set is a special treat.

I thought this deck would be cool based on seeing the pics of the cards online, but the reality is even better. I have been collecting tarot decks for years, and used my first deck, the Rider-Waite, exclusively for the first ten years or so. I discovered the Robin Wood Tarot and started using that, again for several years, occasionally going back to my original when I felt like it. Since then I've purchased or been given about five more decks, but haven't been tempted again to switch the one I actively use until recieving this deck. Since I got it, every reading I've done has been with the Vampires Tarot... I love it that much! The case it comes in and the book that comes with it are both high quality, and I love how the book has pics of each card on the page with the card's interpretations. The fact that the major arcana doesn't have the names on the cards, only the numbers, takes a little getting used to, but once I'd just glanced through the deck a time or two, I found I could locate enough of the usual symbology used on those cards in most decks to figure out at a glance which one the card is without looking it up, even before I used them enough to recognize them in their own right. That is another thing I consider an asset to this deck. Though the artwork is unique, they don't neglect the deeper symbology of the tarot.

The Tarot of the Vampires is a wonderful addition to my other decks. The graphics are delightful and vivid. I recommend it to anyone that enjoys collecting tarot and using them.

i just recieved these cards and all i can say is wow. how amazing are these cards? they are amazing to look at and to hold. i am looking forward to my first reading. they come with a informative book that is colored and detailed. i think i will get a lot out of these cards. if you love the gothic and deep shadows you will love these.

We love this deck all of the cards are so beautiful and breathtaking, but we must have gotten a defective deck or something cause we are missing a few cards and have several doubles. I do want to stress that this is an awesome set of tarot cards and I'm sure once we can exchange em it will be awesome.

I bought the set as a gift for my 16 year old god daughter and she said she loved it!
The cards are based on the look of Bram Stoker's Dracula by the looks of them and they did a fine job. Nothing too graphic or revealing. Her mother told me she read the book in the first two days of having it, so it sounds like a good read.
Thanks to Amazon it was at least $12 cheaper on the end cost than anywhere else on the web.

If your collection of decks consist of a vampiric theme, then i guess this would be a good deck for you, however, the imagery was just not for me. A handful of cards were extremely beautiful (the star) but the images was primarily just vampires and werewolves with very little tarot connotation. I kept the deck just to be part of my collection however as a reading deck i would not recommend this deck. yet again i must emphasize that it is good addition if 'vampiric and lycanthropic' themed decks is your thing. a better deck would be "gothic vampire" or "tarot of vampyres"
