Eerily similar to De La Cruz but engaging,

This review is from: After Dark (Vamps, Book 3) (Paperback)
After Dark is the third in the Vamps series by Nancy A Collins. Now I am very mixed in regards to whether or not I loved this book or was upset that the plot lined followed the Blue Bloods series very closely.
I like this series because of some unique points. Cally is half human/half vampire and the first of her kind. She has storm gathering powers as well as the shadow hand. Two exceptionally strong attributes that make Cally the perfect 'ally' in this Vampire world. Her father cannot claim her because she is half human, but has gotten one of his vassals to take up the task. Cally is also an amazing fashion designer. I mean she creates, sews and decorates (embroiders, sews lace, exc.) all by herself. Cally also falls in love with the wrong boys. First with Peter, a vampire hunter, and then with Lucky her real father's enemy's son. The books are each very quick reads and engaging. The all girls prep school is unique and the vampire society is also different then other vamp books. Now.... Like De La Cruz's Blue Blood series this focuses on an evil blonde girl, our dark haired heroine, and of course includes the blond girl's boyfriend whom the dark hair heroine liked and was liked back. Also both Blue Bloods and Vamps revolve around snotty rich vampire kids, high exclusive fashion and popular cliques. In the second book of each series there is even a debutant 'coming out party.' In addition both parties get crashed by the 'enemy.' Now to make matters worse. Lilith (the Vamps evil blonde girl) and Cally (dark haired heroine) are forced to live under the same house when Cally's mother dies and her 'foster father is called away.' In the Blue Bloods series Mimi (evil blonde girl) and Schuyler (dark haired heroine) are forced to live together when both of Schuyler 'guardians' are either killed or deemed unfit. Hmmmm.... do you see where I'm getting? I could forgive some similarities but it seems as if Hyperion (Blue Bloods publishing company) and Harper Teen (Vamps publishing company) have some problems. All around I would give this series a 3 1/2 stars if I had never read the Blue Bloods series because it is engaging, fun and a fast read. Having read both series though I have to give it 2 stars because the two are too similar not to notice.

Again, a seriously fun action packed read. My only complaint was it was over way too quick. While I asked myself if Cally hadn't become to dumb to live, I still did not want this series to end. So if you want a quick read and don't mind that there may not be another book and thus answers to some of your questions, pick up this series.

AFTER DARK is the third installment in the VAMPS series. It picks up where NIGHT LIFE leaves off; everyone of Old Blood consequence is attending the Rauhnacht Grand Ball at the Orlock estate. But the night turns sour when the Van Helsings show up and start attacking.
Callie is stunned when she sees her old flame, Peter, among the hunters. And Lilith is awestruck when she finds out that Xander Orlock, aka EXO, is partly responsible for her rescue. But after the Grand Ball, things are no longer the same. Lilith's mother is now dead, and along with her, all the undead and anything associated with her blood right. And Callie's mother and protectors are also gone. In light of these changes, Callie has now been invited to move into the Todd household. She's still not ousted as Victor Todd's daughter, and Lilith is seething at having Callie move into her mother's rooms. There are some bright spots, though. Callie's fashion designs were discovered by none other than Sister Midnight at the Ball. After showing Sister her sketches, Callie is invited to have her own runway show at Sister's boutique. But unfortunately, Lilith is to be the star model. Callie can work with that, if she has to. AFTER DARK is a fun look at the lighter side of vampire family struggles. Callie and Lilith want nothing to do with each other, yet circumstance keep bringing the two of them together. The story moves quickly and engrosses the reader from the first page. The story flows better having read the previous two installments, but readers can quickly pick up the gist of the story if this is their first foray into the VAMPS series. I don't know when the next installment of VAMPS will be out, but AFTER DARK leaves so many loose ends, you just know there has to be one! I for one will be keeping my eyes open for it! I was really exited to read the third book in the VAMPS series. I immediately dived in once I bought it.
It leaves off where the second one ended; The Rauhnacht Grand Ball has everything you need for a night of scandal and intrigue: gala dresses, stolen boyfriends, forbidden love . . . Then a team of vampire hunters shows up and ruins everything! The surprise attack by Van Helsings is the worst gate-crashing ever. In the aftermath, half sisters Lilith and Cally scramble to regain their footing at the exclusive Bathory Academy--and in the world of high fashion, where both have star potential. When new suitors turn the romance up a notch, it's almost enough to make the half sisters forget their intense rivalry. Almost. But shared blood between vampires is not easy, and before long Lilith and Cally find themselves face-to-face again. While it may not be the best series out there, it has a way of grabbing your attention and keeping it until you finish the book. Yes it is an easy read but it can be worth it. I still call is Gossip Girl but with Vampires.
