The list author says: "These are the books and series that I've read in the last few years, most of them are favorites that I've reread quite a few times-- a few I've included that I'm not a huge fan of, but someone else might enjoy. The YA books are also fantasy/paranormal and, though geared toward teens, I enjoyed them as an 20-something adult."
"Mercy Thompson is a coyote shape shifter with a knack for trouble. Fantastic world building, excellent plots and fleshed out characters, including: werewolves, vampires, and fae. Light on the romance in the first few books. No graphic details. Briggs is a favorite.
Followed by: Blood Bound, Iron Kissed, Bone Crossed, Silver Borne, & River Marked.
"Oh.My.God. Blew me away! PNR of the hot and steamy variety. Each book is stand alone but deserve to be read in order. Each couple is strong yet faulted. Amazing world. Sexy, loveable characters. Vamps, weres, Valkyrie, fey, witches, & demons. Cole can tell a tale!
Followed by: No Rest for the Wicked, Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night, & 6 more.
"Takes place in same world as the Mercy series, about werewolf mates Anna and Charles. Great couple. These are more focused on romance than sex. Briggs writes magical plots and loveable characters. Explores more about weres and the packs.
Preceded by: "Alpha & Omega" in the Anthology On the Prowl.
"PNR. Some really smokin' scenes. Cat, a dhamp who hates vamps, and Bones, a mercenary vampire who challenges all her beliefs about the fanged. You'll fall for Bones just as Cat does. You will laugh, you will cry. Frost tugs on the heart strings. Supes include: Vamps, dhamps, & ghouls.
Followed by: One Foot in the Grave, At Grave's End, & 2 more.
"UF/PNR? Addicting! Mac begins as a pampered, pink princess who will annoy you; she grows significantly by book end. She gets mixed up with various Unseelie/Seelie and, man of mystery and intrigue, Barrons. LOTS of sexual tension and steamy moments. 4th book = woah. Keeps you guessing.
Followed by: Bloodfever, Faefever, Dreamfever, & Shadowfever.
"Cassie is a lovable clairvoyant. World can be confusing at first. The men in her life, Mircea and Pritkin, are yum. Has romance in it and lots of sexual tension, but is more UF than PNR. Lots of supernaturals--mages, vampires, werewolves, demons, trolls, etc.
Followed by: Claimed by Shadows, Embrace the Night, Curse the Dawn, & Hunt the Moon.
"Rose is a dhampir who attends high school with other dhamps and vamps. Mature writing. Great action. Steamy moments for a YA. Parts made me cry. All the characters feel real. You grow to care for them all. Dimitri & Adrian will tug at your heart. Love this series!
Followed by: Frostbite & 4 more. This series is completed. Spinoff: Bloodlines.
"UF and/or PNR, some very steamy. Eugenie, a shaman, fixes supernatural problems. Once she enters the Otherworld on a job, her life is never the same. Full of gentry (ie fae). Mead writes colorful characters, like Eugenie's roommate, and faux Native American, Tim. And wait till you meet Dorian! Oh my.
"UF. Georgina is a succubus with a heart & morals. Her biggest dilemma, when not fighting evil, is how to be in a relationship and not kill the guy. Mead is a genius. As with her other two series, this one is fantastic! Hot! Emotional. Love the characters & their development. Has vamps, demons, angels, & more.
"Dorina is a dhampire with a chip on her shoulder. An underdog you'll root for. Love interest Louis-Cesare is yummy. Her father is Mircea, who plays a big role in the Cassie series. Same world as Cassie's, filled with a lot of crossover characters. There is romance but is more UF than PNR.
"Another PNR by Frost. Not as steamy. Set in the same world as Cat & Bones, which is where we're first introduced to the leading couples. I'll read anything written by Frost. She doesn't disappoint. Each book is a stand alone.
Followed by: Eternal Kiss of Darkness
*4 out 5. Mostly because it isn't *as strong* as her main series. I have reread these twice so far."
"UF with some romance. Rachel Morgan, witch, lives in a church with a living vampire, who has issues, Ivy, as well as fiery pixie man, Jenks. Partners in a PI business. And then there's Trent, whom I love & hate. Also has werewolves, elves, & demons. 4th book is slow, rest are great.
Followed by: The Good, the Bad, & the Undead, & 7 more.
"UF, some romance. Merit is a new vampire, trying to figure it all out. It's not easy with a hot and annoying Master like Ethan. This series has vampires, sorcerers, & shape shifters thus far. Each book in the series only gets better. Fun world, fun characters. Good plots.
Followed by: Friday Night Bites, Twice Bitten, & Hard Bitten.
*3.75 out 5, currently. I plan to reread these eventually."
"YA. Dru is all alone after her dad, a hunter, is turned into a zombie. Similar to show Supernatural. World takes a while to develop. Descrips and refs in 1st book can be odd and/or out of date. Still hooked me. Good dialogue. Real characters. Light on romance. Vamps, dhamps, weres, zombies, & more.
"Unique world. In this series, vampires are created by angels. Elena, born with the ability to scent vamps, is the Guilds best hunter. Hired by archangel Raphael (hot!), Elena's world gets seriously complicated. Dark & steamy. The angels are really interesting. Fresh story. Different in a good way.
Followed by Archangel's Kiss & Archangel's Consort.
"The banter between Kate, a slayer, & Curran, Beastlord & lion shifter, is hilarious. You won't believe the things they say. The vamps are very unusual; fresh take on the species. Primarily UF, 4th book takes a more romantic turn. Multiple types of shifters. Interesting plots.
"UF. Alex is a grave witch, someone who can raise shades and has a strong grip on all things dead. Including Death himself. Magic is confusing at first. I like the fae elements. Great new series! Falin is an intriguing male lead, as is Death. Alex is a strong fem and I like her personality. Steamy scene, lots of sizzle.
"The Edge lays between The Broken (our world) and The Weird (all-magic world). The leading ladies are sassy and smart. The men are rugged and rough around the edges. Stand alone books. PNR, with lots of fantasy. Witty writing.
"PNR with SciFi influence. Unique world. Stand alone books. Psy are unfeeling humans with powers of the mind, Changelings are humans who turn into either leopards or wolves. Steamy scenes. Read the first 2 books so far, going to read the rest soon. Like Singh's writing, prefer the Guild series.
Followed by: Visions of Heat & 7 more.
*3.9 out 5, currently. Plan to reread these eventually."
"PNR. Jane is a newbie vamp with a long streak of wrong place, wrong time. Lots of humor and sarcasm. A light, fun read compared to the other series on my list. Not as romancy in 1st book; not a lot of Gabriel scenes. Not a bad thing, relationship will develop. Fun change of pace.
Followed by: NGD Date Dead Men & 1 more.
*3.9 out of 5. Only read 1st book so far, will read rest soon."
"With LKH, you either love her or hate her. Merry is a part-Sidhe, part-Brownie, part-Human who is 1 of 2 heirs to the Unseelie Court. These books are steamy and involve multiple partners. Can often times be light on the plot. Vivid world. Often dark. Prefer the scenes in Faery.
Followed by: Caress of Twilight, Seduced by Moonlight, & 4 more.
*3.7 out of 5. I plan to reread these eventually."
"UF. Jane, a Nat American skinwalker with a case of amnesia, hunts rogue vamps. She doesn't remember anything about her childhood. Beast, one of her animal forms, has a soul and mind of her own. Beasts POV is a bit jarring. Plot and characters were well thought out. Still, I didn't feel a strong connection to Jane.
"Faythe, a werecat, is struggling to find her place in the world. Being a female werecat means no freedom or privacy because they're so rare. Very interesting world, descriptive writing. First book runs kinda long. UF and/or PNR. Can be dark. Shape shifters, mostly werecats.
Followed by: Rogue & 4 more. Series is completed.
*3.5 out of 5. I plan to reread these eventually."
"UF/PNR? Riley is a tattoo artist w/ blood that's like a drug to vamps. When her brother & his friends unleash 2 entombed vamps & begin to turn vamp themselves, Riley turns to Eli & his vamp family for help. Good writing, often over-descriptive/repetitive. Slow pacing. Has potential. Couple steamy scenes.
Followed by: Everdark.
*3.5 out of 5. I plan to reread these eventually."
"YA. Nora is a teen with a crush on fallen angel, & rebel-w/o-a-cause, Patch. Plot was decent, interesting world but side characters felt flat & parts dragged on with no real purpose... It was a good first effort from a new author. Hope for growth in 2nd book.
Followed by: Crescendo.
*3.25 out of 5. Have only read 1st book, plan to reread some day. Will buy 2nd book if on sale."
"PNR. Riley is a Vamp/Werewolf, who investigates supernatural crimes. Can be really steamy (weres have multiple partners). Side characters are great. Quinn is a hot vamp. Plots can feel redundant. Some Australian vernacular is strange. Interesting series. Has vamps, weres, & shape shifters.
Followed by: Kissing Sin & 7 more. Series is completed.
"YA. Not the usual for paranormal--no vamps, weres, or angels. Ever is a 17yo clairvoyant who gets regular visits from her dead sister. Damen is a bit a-typical: shows up out of the blue, runs hot and cold. Still, it was interesting. Not my fav YA by a long shot, but better than some.
Followed by: Blue Moon & 4 more.
*3 out of 5. Have only read 1st book. Will check out the 2nd eventually."
"YA. Aislinn is a teen who can see faeries. Keenan is a King of Faeries who thinks Aislinn is his Queen. Seth is the boy in the middle. Book just didn't ring with me. Vivid & imaginitive. Plot felt rushed. Characters were too... static. Too young feeling.
Followed by: Ink Exchange & 2 more.
*3 out of 5. Have only read 1st book and won't be rereading it."
"The brothers come off ghetto. "My brother", "Sh-tkickers" & "leathers" over & over. Too cheesy to ignore. WAY too many POVs. I cut out all the parts told in the Lessers POV—and I didn’t miss any plot. The scenes were steamy. Neat characters & world. Just not my thing.
Followed by: Lover Eternal & 7 more.
*2.5 out of 5. I sold these books after reading (read up to book 6). No rereads wanted."
"PNR. Lily, a sensitive, felt like a stick in the mud. I couldn't relate to her at all. The romance between her & Rule, a were--didn't buy it. Liked side characters Cynna & Cullen more. Wilks likes unpronouncable minor character names. Often political. Not my cup of tea.
Followed by: Tempting Danger & 5 more.
*2 out of 5. I sold these books after reading (read to book 5). No rereads wanted."
