3.0 out of 5 stars it's an indie period piece, how can you not like it?, July 22, 2007
This review is from: Vampyre [VHS] (VHS Tape)
i'm familiar with the area in which it was shot, and the film really captured the haunting essence of the hudson valley region. and how many low budget horror movies allow the storyline to meander and not take you where you expect to go? it's not another nameless 80s horror film that involves 30 year-olds playing teenagers who get slaughtered at a haunted house, all while making out.

this film was shot for almost nothing. the acting is a little campy, but that's just a circumstance of low budget filmmaking. look at john waters' early movies; you can get beyond that. if you want a spiffy vamire movie then rent something starring tom cruise. but if you appreciate all levels of filmmaking, i think this one is worth the 80 minutes and the several dollars it costs for an out of print vhs. i'd also like to add, cause i see this often with lesser known movie reviews that seem to play devil's advocate, i'm not like the brother of the star or in any way connected to this movie other than having seen it. you know, it just sucks when you get the impression that a review was written by the camera operator or something.

This is a horrible stupid movie which I bought after reading the previous reviews. If you buy it for the erotica, or vampire scenes, there's none, so forget it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bloody Good!, December 31, 1999

I wept, I laughed, I cheered. Congrats to Hallenbeck on a truly inspirational interpretation of the original film. P.S. Topless is as topless does.
