Book Description

Lazarus Deep is a lake that sits like a blot of darkness in the valley. Eighteen-year-old Dylan Adams is on the verge of leaving his hometown for a life in the city, but his plans are dramatically changed when his old school friend Luke Spencer goes missing. A search finds nothing. All anyone knows is that he was last seen at Lazarus Deep. Then, in the dead of night, Dylan's old friend comes calling. But he's not the same boy that everyone once knew. Once more David Leppington, Bernice Mochardi and Electra Charnwood are drawn together to face the vampiric creatures that are Nosferatu: the undead. The desolate North Yorkshire Moors have held their secret for more than a thousand years. Now it is the turn of Lazarus Deep.

'A master of eerie thrills' -- Richard Laymon 'High energy writing' -- Starburst on Vampyrrhic Rites 'The hottest new purveyor of horrific thrills currently working on these shores' -- Big Issue 'Mesmerising quality!Contained all the essential elements!Clark raises not only the dead in the form of Viking vampires but the genre, when he mixes his scares up with thriller undertones. Intelligent, well-paced and compelling prose!I would get down to the bookstore now.' Bite Me on Vamphyrric Rites 'A definite confirmation of this author's growing reputation as one of the top genre novelists around today' -- Starburst on The Night of The Triffids 'Readers will relish Clark's uncomplicated cocktail of chlorophyl and human blood' -- Financial Times on The Night of the Triffids 'To say that Simon Clark is the best novelist to emerge this decade is self-evident. Simon has simply outgrown genre restrictions' -- Andrew Darlington --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

More About the Author

Simon Clark is the author of the cult apocalyptic novel Blood Crazy: "everyone over the age of 19 has been driven murderously insane... children and teenagers flee for their lives..." His novels include Nailed By The Heart, Vampyrrhic, Whitby Vampyrrhic, Ghost Monster and a bloody fistful of others that earned accolades from magazines around the world. This from Hellnotes: 'Clark's is surely the most outrageous imagination to grace horror since the discovery of Clive Barker' And: 'I actually loved Blood Crazy. Not just liked it, but loved it.' A quote from Beyond.

Simon was raised in a family of story-tellers. One told of a human skull buried under the family's garage. Currently he lives in the North of England where Robin Hood once roamed, and where legends of monsters lurking in ponds and caves abound. 2010 sees the release of his latest novella, Humpty's Bones, from Telos Books.

3.0 out of 5 stars a worthy sequel, July 15, 2006

This review is from: Vampyrrhic Rites (Paperback)
Vampyrrhic Rites is a worthy sequal to its predecessor. David Leppington and the gang are back, including Jack Black who appears as either a vampire or a ghost, no one is really sure and helps them get together to fight yet another battle against evil. Dylan Adams and his girlfriend Vikki are introduced as new characters, along with Rowan and Goldi. Problem is, the new characters are weak. Honestly, I think the story would have been just as good without them their, and Goldi was a waste of space...he didnt do anything at all. The writing has shifted and this one is not near as creepy as the first vampyrrhic novel. I guess this one is aimed more at a high tech generation than the first, and while it works fine, it always feels as if the magic of the first book has been hung out to dry. But dont get me wrong, this is a good book and fun and quick and it has all sorts of bloody and guts violence for vampire fans...which speaking of, I think Simon Clark really wrote this for his die hard fans, people who have enjoyed his earlier novels and still want to read his work. I enjoyed it, had a great time with it...if you are expecting it to be as good as the first, it is not going to happen. I would give it 3 and a half stars.
