This review is from: Vampyrrhic Rites (Paperback)
Vampyrrhic Rites is a worthy sequal to its predecessor. David Leppington and the gang are back, including Jack Black who appears as either a vampire or a ghost, no one is really sure and helps them get together to fight yet another battle against evil. Dylan Adams and his girlfriend Vikki are introduced as new characters, along with Rowan and Goldi. Problem is, the new characters are weak. Honestly, I think the story would have been just as good without them their, and Goldi was a waste of space...he didnt do anything at all. The writing has shifted and this one is not near as creepy as the first vampyrrhic novel. I guess this one is aimed more at a high tech generation than the first, and while it works fine, it always feels as if the magic of the first book has been hung out to dry. But dont get me wrong, this is a good book and fun and quick and it has all sorts of bloody and guts violence for vampire fans...which speaking of, I think Simon Clark really wrote this for his die hard fans, people who have enjoyed his earlier novels and still want to read his work. I enjoyed it, had a great time with it...if you are expecting it to be as good as the first, it is not going to happen. I would give it 3 and a half stars.
