Unfortunately, this book is not available in the U.S. If anyone is interested, you can get it through the British Amazon site (amazon.co.uk) or the VdGG website (vandergraafgenerator.co.uk) [I tried not to give a star rating but the system wouldn't let me submit this mssg without doing so; so, five stars natch!]

As a proud owner of the full hard-copy tome, I was wondering whether it would be worth it to have the Kindle version as well. No pictures, obviously, which is a large part of the attraction of the larger book. But then I remembered how READABLE the book was... I plowed through it like it was an edge-of-yer-seat thriller... so I figured what the heck. Well, I needn't have worried. The book is every bit as engrossing on second read. And no annoying typos or scanning errors... this is a well produced version for Kindle. Money well spent. I hope it helps to finance Volume II...??

A highly recommended and worthy effort by two long time VDGG followers who know of what they write about. A very large book packed with rare photos, articles, etc of the band throughout their history. Most followers will have already acquired this holy grail of Hammill/VDGG history and for those with inquiring minds a superb tomb to sit comfortably with as you review the music within on your player.

Phil Smart and Jim Cristopulos are to be saluted for their dedication in putting this together for us, the outcast and castways on the isle of VDGG/Hammill.

My ordered copy of the original hardcover went astray somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean, and it has been a long frustrating wait for a new copy to come along. Thank goodness for Kindle, then, the cue for me to bury myself away for a week and enjoy one of the most enthusiastic, exciting and honest rock books I have ever read. The detail here is immense, the enthusiasm of the authors is unassailable, and while I will admit to skipping over some of the more technical muso-shaped passages, the contributions from the band members leaves you in no doubt just how well-deserved this biography is. I could never claim to enjoy every note VDGG recorded, particularly once we venture into the murky world of live recordings, and I've never been a huge fan of the post Godbluff era. But reading about it here did open my eyes to much I had missed, while the coverage of the earlier years simply confirmed my own belief that H To He is the classic that we should all be in awe of, as opposed to the better-feted discs on either side.

Possibly I would have liked to read more about Peter Hammill's solo career, but of course this is not the place for that... and the reunion is surely a candidate for a whole new sequence of chapters, should the authors ever find the time. A discography and photos would have been pleasing too, but that's just idle talk. If you love (or even merely like) VDGG, this book is an essential read.

I can't praise the authors highly enough for the attention and detail and loving work that went into this definitive history of this great band. If you love VDGG's music, then really, this book needs to be on your shelf.
