This is a waste of potential, time and money,

I saw this CD and I thought i would be great. Although tribute cds have become "old hat", Van Halen had not received the treatment prior to this release. The cd features some the one time very popular heavy metal groups of the 1980's (Ratt, LA Guns, Quiet Riot etc) all who are attempting to make a comback, so a good way to get back into the metal business is to records covers of a greatly sucessful heavy metal band such as Van Halen, right? Wrong!, because they recorded techno versions as opposed to the tradational guitar orientated orignals, these versions are barley recogonizable from the classic originals, I wonder who had the moronic idea to fuse 90's techno with 80's in your face metal, or why a great guitar player such as Bruce Kulick would agree to record "Hot for Teacher" only to barely be heard on it. Do not make my mistake, stay away from this cd. I would give 0 stars but Amazon doesn't allow such a low rating. The only thing that could possibly be as bad these versions of Van Halen songs, is actually hearing Gary Cherone attempt to sing them!

BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE,

This CD is not what it may appear to be. It is a techno-remix of classic Van Halen songs. Some of the songs do not even resemble the original. For example, Hot for Teacher only repeats the word "Teacher" numerous times in the beginning, and then later repeats "I got it bad" again and again. The guitar solo is actually in there, but it is sped up and sounds synthesized. Don't expect any cool remixes unless you are a huge techno fan. This is a cheap gimmick, and I'm very unhappy that I purchased this.

TRIBUTE? More like Disgrace,

O.K., This is one of the most horrible disc I have ever heard. I bought it, and the next day I sold it to a used CD place. I thought it would be cool with some of the 80's line-ups that was included, but boy was I wrong. I dont think it would be as bad if it didnt have the vocals.

Not to hot for remixes,

Let me start of by saying I love VH, techno music, and remixes of songs. However this Cd is soo butchered its like a crappy DJ made this for his first ever remix set. The techno over powers the lyrics in more than one song. There are only a few songs that have the entire lyrics in them , otherwise they are just poor cuts and loops. If you were to seperate the techno and the covers you would have two good seperate cd's.Dont get me wrong I liked the versions of "Runnin w/ the devil"and "Unchained" not much more than that though. Maybe next tribute will be a little better, lets hope.

I feel that I needed to bump up the rating for this album. All the people who gave it bad reviews actually wanted to hear Van Halen, well, I say, buy a Van Halen album! This CD is what it is, a very well done piece of techno/electronica done to the tune of Van Halen. What else would you expect when it's put out by Cleopatra records? This is what Cleopatra records does when they put out a Tribute albums, the majority of their bands are techno/electric and or goth, which are all excellent for their respective genres. The songs on this album inpaticular are refreshing takes on the classic Van Halen songs, they may not have great vocals, but this is a Tribute, not a Remix album. Some people must been expecting a remix with the original vocals, they need to look at a music dictionary once in a while. Although I would not reccomend this disc to any true Halen fans, I would highly reccoment this album to techno/electronica fans and Cleopatra fans, which is what I am. I was very happy with this purchase, and that's exactly why I gave it a 5 star rating. This album has entertained me, and that is the purpose of music.

Close...but not quite,

First of all, I think that the concept of this album is really cool. I don't understand all the bad reviews saying "This is just remixes of old VH." Of course it is...that's the whole point. These are the people who shouldn't even be interested in buying the CD. If you're not open to electronic music, don't even consider this CD, because you will just be disappointed. I, on the other hand, knew exactly what I was getting into when I bought it and will review it as such. The problem I have with this album is the cover bands doing the songs. There is one underlying theme in most of electronica: no vocals. They aren't traditional songs with verse and chorus, and unfortunately sound pretty bad when someone tries. In almost all of the songs on this album, the beats are really cool. They experiment with the guitars and the song melody real well. The problem is when the vocals come in. They just sound out of place with all the techno in the background. The best song on here is Hot For Teacher because they don't try to sing all the lyrics. It is the type of song you would hear at a club and think, "That sounds like they were trying to do Van Halen." I'm not recommending the album, but this is not because it is electronic VH. I think that a remixed album with songs "inspired" by VH tunes would be a lot better than VH covers with a beat in the background.

Interesting there are so many bad reviews posted......,

Well, after reading all of these people trash this cd, I decided to buy it and judge for myself. Boy was I surprised... and I also had a realization that you can never take anybody's word for ANYTHING without experiencing it for yourself. I'd like to say, first off, that if you're looking for "faithful" versions of VH songs, do not come here. You should probably get the other tribute the dude below mentions or just listen to old VH... because you're obviously not looking for anything new. Second, you should probably be familiar with some of the bands that do the remixing on this disc as well as the nature of Cleopatra's previous tribute compilations. I mean, who would buy this cd just on the fact that it has Dweezil Zappa and Pretty Boy Floyd doing old VH tunes? True, the sound your getting is pretty much that of the remixer, rather than of the band being remixed, but still, the results are very interesting and cool. Especially, the KMFDM remix of Unchained, the Electric Hellfire Club's remix of Little Guitars (really trippy...) and the Spahn Ranch remix of Everbody Wants Some! These bands are the real reason to buy this disc! Check out Covered in Black (a Cleopatra AC/DC tribute...) for more of the same experimentation... Don't be a sheep... make your own decisions!

I saw this CD at a record store and didn't know what it was. I thought it was a tribute to VH, like what was done for Rush. I put it in my car stereo to listen to it on my way home. I almost through it out the window. The only track worth listening to is Little Guitars. If I were VH, I would sue sombody!

If you're looking for "pure" Van Halen, this CD isn't it. Instead, you have stumbled across a wide range of diverse artists singing Van Halen tunes, each with his/her own style. Interesting at best, it's not VH like you've ever heard, unless you're fortunate enough to own "Everybody Wants Some!" by Cherrydisc Records. The best way to describe this CD is to say it this way: You'll recognize the lyrics, and you can dance to this, if you'd like.

The Other Van Halen Tribute,
By A Customer
This review is from: Van Halen Tribute: Hot for Remixes (Audio CD)
There is a Van Halen Tribute that came out last year on Roadrunner. Although the bands aren't that well known there are very creative and cool versions of classic VH songs. The company that put the Cd out was Cherrydisc out of boston. The CD is called "a loose interpritation of the musical genius of VH". Get it. It rocks and it is a great party CD.
